old slab side browning buckmark - magazine issues

Post by chasmanguns »

Could use some assistance in that maybe other Forum members have run across this problem and I could use your experience/advice.

I have a 1986 Browning Buckmark, 10 round .22 LR. This is the old "slab side" model that is such a treat to shoot. My teenagers have loved it as a trainer, wife enjoys it, and it is just a sweet gun.

It only came with one 10 round mag and these are the old type with a real thin lip floorplate and with a "Z" spring along with a real steel follower. The mag still works fine, but when shooting at the range it nowdays gets more expensive to take non-shooting time to load up the mag. I went looking for extra mags....none of the "modern" Buckmark mags will work at all due to the heavy fat plastic floorplate. Got tipped off to "Triple K" bought one and had it shipped in direct from Triple K. Looked great, has the thin floorplate, but the follower is now a fat hunk of plastic.

The Triple K mag feeds fine but the slide is no longer held open after the last shot. The bigger follower will not let the slide stop engage so invariably if we are not actually counting rounds fired, we end up with a dry fire which can't be doing my firing pin any good.

Anyone seen this same dilema? Solutions on where to buy a real "original" 1986 style Buckmark magazine? Tried E-Bay, many gun shops, some gun shows...zip, zero, nada. Even wrote to Browning Customer Service but nothing came back useful.

Thinking of retiring the old Buckmark for a new model, or a Ruger Mk III, but hate to relegate it to "safe queen" status after so much fun over the years.

Love to hear if any of you have run across this issue.

I'm sure this is to simple but will the new buckmark mag follower fit in the triple K mag
