US Army req for non standard ammo

Apparently the US Army is requisitioning non standard ammo such as:
1. 2,000,000 each 7.62x39mm Ball, delivered to Camp Stanley in Boerne, TX
2. 550,000 each 7.62x39mm Ball, delivered to Blue Grass Army Depot
3. 575,000 each 7.62x39mm Blank, delivered to Blue Grass Army Depot
4. 425,000 each 9x18mm Ball, delivered to Blue Grass Army Depot
If you are in possession of AK-47, 1911s, M1903 Springfields, Walther PP/PPKs, you might wanna stock up on more ammo before it becomes hard to get as well.
There is some question as to why they are ordering so much non standard ammo for.
This was just a friendly heads up from TM.

The other day I initially passed up a chance to buy some .45ACP because I was expecting the price to start declining. Then I read an article saying it was going to get worse again before it gets any better. So I took a chance and laid in a few more rounds.

I would have thought that there would be more blank than live rounds. For OPFOR training, some commands do outfit their aggressor forces with weapons troops should expect to see being brought to bear upon them.
It is possible that special forces do train with AKs so they can pick up whatever they find and use it, or so they can train indiginous folks how to use what the bad guys leave behind. Again, this seems like a large amount, but I was not special forces.

I haven't seen any 7.62x39mm in brass for a very long time. I guess I'll have to stick with the Wolf steel stuff.

This is stupid. OP, I'm guessing you've never served a day in the military (maybe the national guard?)
Regardless, this is not a lot of ammunition at all. And we use the 762 for multiple reasons from training to Afghanistan.
This site is getting out of hand with the prepper anti government anxiety.

Hello P99
Since you called me out.
I am sorry you feel that way. I did not say anything bad in general. I just posted that they are buying non standard ammo and was questioning why. For some reason you have a problem with it. I appreciate that you have that opinion, and it is yours.
However, if you don't like something, or this site. Feel free to leave, and don't let the door hit you on the way out no one is keeping you here. I am sure there are websites out the or other forums out there that are a better fit for you.

Yeah, P99, that was a bit harsh. I "served" for 14 years Active and the balance reserve. Carried captured weapons on foreign soil, blah, blah, blah. That's nothing special, but its a fair bit more than "a day" and I still don't see any immediate logic for this particular order. Maybe I was a pogue or something...
That said, I'm also not especially alarmed by it. I could *speculate* as to the reasons. Either way, as TM said, it may signal more hoarding, which may warrant... more preemptive hoarding.
I'm sure "The Admin" will give your concerns about the forum the appropriate level of consideration.

And, by the way, expressing a concern that the bureaucrats who run our federal government may screw up the ammo supply by their heavy-handed purchasing methods does not necessarily require that you attribute a nefarious motive to them. They have amply demonstrated in the past that they are capable of fookin' things up worse than polio by accident and/or through sheer incompetence.

Say what you will, but I personally think it's prudent to be anxious of the government right now. Although, TM didn't say a word about any government conspiracy to hoard ammunition (though recent history would back up such a claim) - she was just putting information out there.
We tend to try to stay way from personal attacks around here, so if you would like to remain a member, please change your tune. I'm not asking you to buy into conspiracy theories or prepper anxiety - I'm just asking that you not attack people with words like "Stupid" and then continue down the path of denigration by insulting someone's military service or lack thereof.

To the OP, I would say thanks for the heads-up. Time to buy more ammo.
As for the rest of the conversation, I would have to agree with Dormin. Sad to say, but in our country today, I am more likely to expect the government to screw something up than to get it right. I no longer trust my government to do the right thing, as recent current events have brought to light.

Agreed. More than once we've called out "newbies" for using derogatory language.
We're not "other sites".
We have manners, etiquette, and polite disagreements. And the government spending that kind of money on "Non-issued" ammo? With the sequestration, budget cuts, and underfunded benefits, that's a bit much.
