She left the room in which the children were napping, so she could put out the fire.
Result: Potentially saves life and property; but her employment terminated.
Zero tolerance and political correctness = Zero thought.

I you go to that article and scroll down to the comments and click on sort by oldest, the very first comment is from a mother that is a big fan of that day care center.
The rest of the story is:
The teacher left her students to heat up her lunch.
It was HER LUNCH that was on fire! She started it!
She wasn't fired for putting out the fire.
She was fired for leaving her sleeping students alone the first time to put her lunch in the microwave.

It wasn't a microwave that was on fire. It was a gas oven. Did you watch the video? They show footage with the smoke damage.
Sounds like there were other teachers present too. Are these teachers aloud to urinate, defaecate or eat while working? I would assume they cover each other when need be. Maybe because it was her class and she left them, that was the issue. Now, if she left the kids completely unsupervised to go make lunch, then yea, that would clearly be a problem. Who knows for sure except for her?
Gut to be careful when believing some of these stories. The media puts so much spin on these things that some of them have their own gravitational pull.

I doubt things have changed much since my Mom worked in a daycare center. The workers usually move around and cover each others area while one needs to be away. Who knows how often kids are left unsupervised because nothing occurred while they were.
I also doubt we'll ever know what happened in this instance either.

The comment by a Mommy? While I loathe to believe the press, we all know that second hand accounts.......aka hearsay...... aren't reliable as well. Why not just ask Harry Reid while we're at it? After all, he also heard the Mitt Romney didn't pay his taxes too.
Though for the sake of argument, what if it was her lunch in the Microwave that started the fire? So what? Of all the years that I've used a microwave oven, I have never been able to start a fire in one. I'm not even sure, short of using an accelerant of some kind, of how to do such.

Having been in the general area of someone cooking microwave popcorn for far too long in the office, it is possible to get an atomic kernel that starts to smolder. Stinks to high Heaven, too.
