OK, it isn't a murder investigation. So what probative value could the gun possibly have in a civil rights investigation?

This is a thinly-veiled excuse for the DOJ to persecute Zimmerman and obstruct his access to his own lawfully-owned firearm.

One of the other groups that I belong to is raising money to buy George Zimmerman a new gun.

Buckeye Firearms Association

The Justice Department has placed a 'hold' on trial evidence, including George Zimmerman's firearm.

Buckeye Firearms Foundation is raising funds to buy Zimmerman a NEW GUN and fight attacks on the Second Amendment.

It is politics (the whole thing is, really). Can you imagine the even louder uproar if they said, "yeah, give us the evidence, except the gun, we don't need that"?
Just the possibility of this civil rights case is probably at the very least delaying worse riots. Hopefully it doesn't result in worse riots at the end.

This is bull hockey. Not a law was broken, not a right was violated, until young Trayvon Martin saw fit to lay his fist upon the person of George Zimmerman. At that point, Trayvon Martin had broken a law, AND violated the civil rights of George Zimmerman, who has every right in the world to walk about his neighborhood unmolested.

Exactly!!! These Federal hate crimes laws need some close scrutiny to avoid such abuses. If they can't be fixed, they should be scrapped.

These J O'S won't be happy till we have some abomination called Trayvons Law or some such crap to further restrict lawful people from doing the right thing when it is necessary,, We cannot allow that to pass..
