Post Office parking lot and the 2A - Judgment

A federal judge has ruled that a U.S. Postal Service regulation barring firearms in its parking lots violates the Second Amendment in a case brought by an Avon man and a national gun rights group.
But Senior U.S. District Judge Richard Matsch said the Postal Service has a right to bar Tab Bonidy, who filed the lawsuit, from carrying his gun into the Post Office building itself.

That's pretty interesting.
"There are good reasons for barring weapons within the postal building itself, Matsch said. "An individual openly carrying a firearm may excite passions, or excited passions may lead to the use of the firearm. Someone could also attempt to take the firearm from its lawful carrier and use it for criminal purposes."
The Post Office is somehow different than anywhere else? People regularly become that upset at the Post Office?

The phrase, "going postal" would indicate that the USPS employees are the real threat which necessitates a gun-free zone in the building.

Actually the term "Going Postal" got coined without valid data.
What was happening in those days was that workplace violence in USPS facilities was much more "newsworthy" than if it occurred in more mundane job locations.
Statistically there are no more USPS workplace violence events than there are anywhere else.

14 co-workers and a suicide was a BIG news story at that time, practically unheard of. Then there was the rash of smaller, but similar events. Once the phrase "going postal" was introduced it became the description of all workplace violence.

The answer to that would be YES. It all starts with their unbelievably crappy service, exacerbated by their even more excrementitious attitude.
USPS, as far as I'm concerned, stands for:
Unbelievably
Sh!tty,
Poor
Service
So, yes, I can see where passions may become particularly excited at the post office.

The Post Office refused to rent me a box because I didn't live in the city in which I wanted the box. There have been other reasons that they have denied me service (and turned my money away), but I can't recall what, anymore.
Weren't they fixxin to go bankrupt? Let them wither away, as far I'm concerned.

Damnstraight! Bid it out to either FedEx or UPS. Either one would do a hell of a lot better job at less cost. Draft all those unemployed postal workers and send them to Gitmo. Betcha THEY could make it disappear!

It seems to me that a 'regulation' is supposed to be overruled by 'law'.......
18 USC § 930 - Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities
(d) Subsection (a) shall not apply to—
........
(3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.
