New member, new to VA

So, not only am I a new member on this site, I'm also fairly new to VA (moved here in July 2012).
Getting ready to move out of Alexandria (holy crap) to a much nicer, much quieter house in Spotsylvania, right near Lake Anna.
I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times by newcomers to the site - where do seasoned VA gun owners like to go to purchase their firearms? What do you need (if anything) to make a purchase (in IL it was like selling a kidney)?

In Virginia, you can buy, sell or trade as you please. Private sales between individuals are common and do not require an FFL transfer. If selling to an individual, it's best to perform due diligence and ask a couple of questions (are you legally allowed to own or handle a firearm?) and ask for a Virginia Driver's License to verify their residency.
I think you'll like the Lake Anna area. It's very nice out there - especially if you're escaping Alexandria!
Where are you from in Illinois? I grew up in the central part of the state and had a FOID card at the age of 16. Seems that they can even concealed carry in IL now!

What do you need to buy a gun in VA?
1. You DON'T NEED a FOID. They don't exist in VA.
2. If buy from an FFL you'll need to be able to pass an instant check which usually doesn't take but a few minutes to maybe an hour.
3. Either cash or a credit card.
