Taking the wife with me today to Colonial Shooting Academy. She brought up interest in getting defense shooting classes so in the mean-time I'm getting her comfortable with my Beretta before she moves onto that.
Hopefully I'll be able to snap a picture or two with my phone while we're there

If you haven't visited before, you're gonna like it. I had visited CSA a few months back just to look around, and was offered a tour. Didn't have opportunity to shoot there then. Went there on Saturday to shoot and my wife went along. The only other indoor range that she had been to is Dominion, so I think that's what she was expecting. She was pleasantly surprised at Colonial. She even said she wants to go back!
I learned something about CSA, too. Typically, the indoor ranges I've visited only allow handguns. A rifle is OK, in .22LR. As I'm reading the range rules I saw that CSA allows rifles up to .30 cal. I clarified that with one of the guys working there. "So I can bring my Garand?!!" The guy said, "Yeah! ...and look for me when you bring it. I'd like to see it." I'm diggin' this place.

Right you are newdovo. One of the nicest laid out gun shops that I've seen really. Some of the stuff in there is pricey, but that's expected. They have a good selection of ammo there too. I saw 40 S&W 50 ct for 39.95 and they had pleeeeeenty of boxes on the shelf. The floor staff was really friendly, greeted us as we walked in, asked us if we needed any help and directed us to the table to sign the papers for first timers. The video is kind of goofy, but good for people with no experience and the "test" was just verbal at the rental register. For me and my wife to shoo for 1 hour was $34.54. That included the 1 hour, 6 silhouette targets, eyes and ear protection (the eyes we were able to keep). I heard the neighborhood around there complained about noise from the range... WTF? You can barely hear anything from being INSIDE the shop. They have 2 sets of doors to help baffle the noise, and I heard nothing from outside and my hearing is pretty damn good.
Once inside the range area, the R.O.'s were very friendly and attentive to everyone in there. I hadn't used their system before so the R.S.O that greeted us showed us how to operate their pulley system. Once set in, everything was great. The range is super clean, and the guys are constantly sweeping spent brass. They even asked to make sure we weren't picking up our own brass before sweeping it up.
Now, PHOTOOOOOOOOS!
This is my wifes target, 15 feet 10 rds of Armscorp 124 grn 9mm luger. Second time she's shot my Beretta PX4, and it's been over a year since she shot it that first time. Not too shabby!

Of course, you've got to have the famous "muzzle flash" photo to show how bad ass you really are.

She snapped one of me with my VGOF Swag on

After her first 10 rounds, she stepped it up to 20 feet for 10 rds. I feel bad for the poor bastard who tries to get in her way

I have shot there several times...Can only say positive things about the range and the staff. I have a friend that has a Membership and is always asking me to go with him. I do enjoy shooting there , but being 35 miles away I can't justify buying a membership.

Your Wife shot very well !

I was there twice today....I had a student there for the live fire portion of NRA Basic Pistol in the afternoon, and then this evening I volunteered to provide some live fire training for a local group. I must have just missed you!
When you guys are ready for some defensive pistol shooting classes, our Defensive Handgun I and II classes await! We'd be happy to have you.

Oh shoot! I think we arrived somewhere between 2:30 and 3:00 and left at about 4:30. I've already shown my wife your stuff too, she's real excited about getting to that level. She's a determined lady so I know she'll get there soon.

Next time you are in the area, stop in to our offices and say hello! We're just a few doors down from CSA.
Just keep her shooting and when you are both ready, let me know!

I've heard CSA has a range in VA Beach, on the corner of Witchduck Rd & Va Beach Blvd - Does anyone have any info on that?

The website says opening early 2014. I emailed last night and inquired if Richmond members would be able to use the beach location. I was told yes, that there will be a $5 visit fee. All member discounts will be available.

Thanks for the info......couldn't access the website from work. They have an anti gun + anti porn policy i guess.
