Social Security 2009

Post by moss20 »

Now, it is your decision.

2010 is an election year for 1/3 of the senate and all of the house of representatives. It would be nice if congress got the message; the voting taxpayers are in charge now.

LET US SHOW OUR LEADERS IN WASHINGTON "PEOPLE POWER" AND THE POWER OF THE INTERNET. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS.

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT!

KEEP IT GOING!!!!

Propose this in 2009:

START A BILL TO PLACE ALL POLITICIANS ON SOCIAL SECURITY

------------ --------- --------- ----

SOCIAL SECURITY:

(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years. pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congress person has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments. .....

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.
This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. ZIP!! NADA!!! ZILCH!!!

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer), We can expect to get an average of
$1,000 per month after retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley 's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to

Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. . Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us

Then sit back.....

And see how fast they would fix it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?

Better yet......

How many people WILL you send this to?
P.S. The same goes for their healthplan

All representatives are up for election in 2010. We could have a clean sweep. They only serve on 2 year terms. 36 seats in the senate are up for grabs.

Getting the politicians away from their golden shower benefit plan wouldn't come easy.. It would take an extreme set of circumstances to even to have it considered,,, A clean sweep of the Congress could possibly get the ball rolling if potential candidates were informed that this change better be part of their agenda, It's definitely time the members of Congress were taught a little humility, and are made to understand what their true purpose in Washington is,, To serve the people not themselves.

The other day I got my social security informational letter. Included with the letter was another letter explaining social security to younger workers. One section of the letter was called, will social security be around when I retire. According to the letter, social security does not go bankrupt until 2041, meanwhile I won't be 67 until well after 2041. I tried to call social security to see if they could clarify, but after a 27 minute wait on hold, I gave up. Ironically they estimated my wait time to be 10 minutes at the beginning of the call. So if they can't estimate the wait time of the call, why should I trust them to estimate the solvency of social security as a whole.

While I don't argue that they are crooks, I question the accuracy of what appears to be an email in the OP.

Information about congressional retirement benefits is available here. Basically they are covered under either CSRS or FERS.

All federal employees hired (in the case of members of Congress elected) after 1984 are covered by FERS. We (I'm one of the employees under FERS) pay a small percentage into retirement, we pay social security, and we have TSP (401K Equivalent). Those federal employees hired (or member of Congress elected) before 1984 did not pay Social Security but instead paid the equivalent amount into their retirement fund. They were not eligible to draw Social Security based on their federal service and could not participate in the TSP.

Gary, you are indeed correct. Unless you pay your 40 quarters you arent eligible. That nixes career politicians from SS benefits who havent held any other job and are covered under the old CSRS.

I hate dial up, after writing a reply I lost it when I was disconnected.

Anyway, what I was getting at is that they did pay into their retirement plan, as opposed to the statement "Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. ZIP!! NADA!!! ZILCH!!!" And also that they have to meet the time-in-service and retirement age in order to draw retirement making it hard for "Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives" since they would most likely be under FERS and can't draw retirement until they reach 55/57 (depending on when they were born) and must have 20 years of service.

On a lighter note, I'm ready for a RIF. I got my 25 years so they'd have to retire me.
