Greetings From Post-Newtown America
A five-year-old Maryland boy was interrogated until he wet himself and suspended for 10 days after school officials caught with playing with a “cowboy-style cap gun,” the Washington Post reports, citing the child’s family and lawyer.
School officials interrogated the boy for two whole hours until he “uncharacteristically” wet his pants, the boy’s mother said.

For those of you that wondered what happened to the school bullies when we were growing up. They now work for the Maryland school system.
Way to go, grown-ups!

Situations like this started long before Newtown.

Here's another article about it with a long list of similar over-reactions in school systems around the country.

This has been going on for years. I went to school in Montgomery County public schools. Once I was talking to a friend on the bus about playing counter-strike (a PC online game), said something about using an AK in the game. When I got to school the next day with my guitar in its case (that I played in jazz band)... a security officer greeted me at the bus and took my case. They almost looked disappointed when they opened it and it wasn't a rifle...
Long story short I was suspended anyway and couldn't return to school until I had a psych eval. It was out of their "zero tolerance" playbook. This was 11 years ago or so...

In the old days, the parents would band together and the teacher and principal would be gone from town forever by the next sunrise.

I had a similar incident when I was 5; it was Halloween when I did it though. I dressed up as a cowboy and had a gun with an internal rubber band that made the hammer drop when you pulled the trigger.
Reaction from authority was totally different though; I was called into the principal' s office and got a stern talking to. They held the gun until the end of the day, I got I back, and that was it. No fuss, no authorities, just a lesson learned.
This was in '97, so not too long ago if you ask me. Sad how much things have changed.
@FiremanBob, Too bad its not the old days any more.

Talk about the good ol days... my Dad (ok, he's in his 80s) would walk to elementary school. He said all the boys would carry their 22 rifle to and from school, in case there was a rabbit or something to shoot. They just propped them up in the back of the school room during school. How about that???

When my kid was 3, which was about the time I was made aware of his existance, he had been taught by the public pre-school that guns were evil.
I got that out of his head right quick-like.
They do start indoctrinating them rather young, though. And, with harsh and cruel methods, too, it seems.

What that principal fits the legal description of assault and is child abuse. If you or I did that to a neighbors kid we were babysitting we would be cooling our heels in the local hoosgow. Terrorizing a kid for two hours till he pees his pants is unacceptable. If I were the parent I would be talking with a lawyer.
