Just a heads up,

Your trunk is NOT the safest place in the world to keep your firearms, or valuables! Why? Because if someone can break the glass, not set off the alarm, they can reach in, and hit your "Trunk Release", unless you LOCK IT!

I keep my trunk release locked at all times for this reason. Helpful hints from your friendly neighborhood Holy Man!

No trunk release on mine. Key FOB or key only. But when I do store in the truck I use a gun safe with a steel tether for the handguns and ammo. But this is a very rare occurance.

Where is "safe" these days? If they know its there and they want it, they can get it.

The only "safe" place is when you are sitting on the hood and armed yourself and guarding your "stuff"...even then, you might get hit by a meteor, so what's the use?

This is why all my guns are insured via a high value property rider attached to my auto and renter's insurance policies. The biggest concern IMO is liability if the weapon(s) stolen from you are loaded. I guess that all depends on locality and whether or not you'd be not criminally or civilly liable. In MD there are penalties for leaving firearms in a location where you "knew or should have known" that an unauthorized person could gain access. To me that's a broad category...
