Anybody own one of these or have any input on them? curious about the .40 cal version so I don't have to have separate ammo from my handgun. They also easily convert to a lefty so that would be nice!

No, but I would mind if I did. I'd naturally opt for .45ACP.

I don't own one and I should disclose that in general I am not a fan of pistol caliber carbines. If I'm going to incur the weight and size penalty of a rifle, I'll take it in a rifle caliber. Calibers aside, here are my comments on the design.


Pros:
I like the caliber modularity, the use of standard Glock mags and AR15 trigger parts. Should make it reliable and easier to maintain.


Cons:
Because of the modularity, it's no longer field strippable (typically means no tools required). That's probably not a big deal depending on your intended use. Extending that idea, I wouldn't want to rely on one for hard use. E.g. AR15 castle nuts are staked for a reason, using that as your disassembly mechanism is a bit worrying to me. I was also a bit disappointed that they didn't get rid of the recoil spring in the buffer tube. Pistol cartridges are short and they did a custom "upper" anyways, why not enable a folding stock (that still allows the gun to function while folded)?


While not a battle ready design IMHO, it should make a fun range toy (which if we're honest, it's what most of our firearms are).

Check out lone wolf also. They make several different calibers. I have one of their 9mm and it uses glock mags. I sbr'ed and suppressed it and it is super fun and reliable.

Only problem I had was after I had it engraved, It would constantly jam up and it pissed me off for months lol. I attributed it to something not being right being suppressed and sbr'ed. Finally I looked into it and realized that when the engraving guys put it back together they set the ejector to low. Raised it up and it runs awesome again.

I've always liked the idea of carbines in pistol calibers, but mag capacity is always the sticking point. The first time I shot the Beretta CX4 in 45acp I was impressed. Not so much with the 8-round pistol magazine.

With the lone wolf lower I use the 33 round glock mags.

My go-to FFL guy tells me he can get a 25-round drum mag for a 1911. Doesn’t blow my skirt up on a 1911, but I think on a .45 ACP carbine it would be pretty breezy. I sure wouldn't turn my back on such a toy.

But as range toys go, a 60-round mag on an AR-15 with a slide-fire stock is about as good as a country boy can do without all that federal paperwork. And if anything was much more fun than that, I couldn't stand it no how.

the CX4 in .40 has a 14 round mag available. going on my short list!

Drum mags are notoriously unreliable. In many designs they also get in the way of the achieving a proper forward grip.
