Former Marylander

Hey all, I'll keep it short and sweet.

I just moved to Falls Church. Got sick of Maryland's BS. I'm not some crazy lib either, just a strong Libertarian type who wants to keep Virginia RED and fight the good fight where it matters. I work in the firearms industry, so obviously I'll be checking in here from time to time to discuss pretty much anything. :)

I'm already applying for my CHP, my main obstacle is obtaining fingerprint cards and getting prints done, as the Fairfax Police only operate from 8am-4pm, and I work during those hours. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've searched this forum a bit but couldn't find any pertinent information.

Welcome! Write your reps and VOTE!

Ummm.... I thought requiring fingerprints for a CHP was a no-no anymore....

Or is FFX thumbing their nose as the law again?

Maybe your county Sherriff’s office can accommodate you.

But wait a minute; - what do the FFX police do about fingerprinting people who are booked after 4pm and before 8AM?

you guys are right, I re-read the app instructions. no prints required! I must have read an out-dated guide on applying.

I'll submit it tomorrow. :)

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I'm looking for good shops in the Falls Church area.

I'm also an IDPA member in search of a new club... I'll start browsing the other sections of the forum as I have time, but would appreciate any recommendations!

Fairfax Rod and Gun Club has monthly IDPA matches, but slots are few for non club members. I'm afraid you will have to travel some. Here is a calendar with most of the options:

thanks Chasbo00, I'll definitely check it out. My best friend lives over in Centerville so I'm up that way all the time. I'm leery of going to the ranges in Maryland
I am used to shooting at after October due to the new laws going into effect.

I already got my VA Driver's License and dropped my CHP application in the mail on Thursday. I've been OCing and scoping out the places I like to go looking for "no guns" signs.

I already feel at home in Virginia, I cringe when I drive into MD and feel better once I cross back into the commonwealth. :)

I'll be joining VCDL asap, and I plan on becoming VERY active in fighting for constitutional principles in VA, especially gun rights. Truth me told I'll still be in the scene in MD since most of my family and friends still live there.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!

Being a retired guy, I like the Tuesday afternoon match held monthly in Thurmont, MD plus a couple of other MD matches on occasion. I hope the new laws don't put a crimp on MD's matches. I haven't personally looked at the new laws yet, but I hear they mainly just affect purchasing and transfers.

If you can live with the two-hour drive, I highly recommend the monthly all steel match near Richmond at the Black Creek Range.

The big problem with MD will be banned "assault rifles", which if purchased before 10/1/13 will be legal... but you can't "transfer" them to anyone else, including letting someone else shoot it, even temporarily at a range, from what I understand. Complete bs. Now you see why I live in VA now...
