Refugee From Maryland...Originally From WA State

Hi All,

My name is Shawn and my wife and I are in the process of defecting from the Democratic People Republic of Maryland and just signed a lease on a house in Stafford County today.

We moved to Maryland in 2011 shortly after I returned from my tour in Afghanistan as a defense contractor. We should have known better than to rent a place in Maryland, but we only had a couple of days to find a house. We learned our lesson and have rectified the situation.

I grew up in the Eastern part of Washington State (desert) and have been a life long shooter.
I am an NRA Life Member, SAF Annual Member, NRA Certified Basic Handgun Instructor, Former Utah Department of Public Safety Concealed Firearm Permit Course Instructor, NRA Certified Range Safety Officer, Glock Certified Armorer and NRA-Winchester Marksmanship Program Distinguished Expert - Handgun.

I think that I may hold the record for Utah CCW Course held farthest from the Bee-Hive State as I taught the course twice a month when I was in AFG, and qualified more than 500 Active Duty Military, GOV Civilians and Contractors in my very limited time off while at Bagram Air Field.

I'm a big Glock fan, but pretty much like anything that goes "bang".
As AR-15's go I swear by Olympic Arms because they are based in Washington State, make a great product and I know a lot of the management who are all good folks. Oly was one of the first Arms manufacturers to embargo New York State Government agencies.

In addition to shooting, I am big into fishing from my kayak and look forward to targeting Northern Snakeheads in the smaller creeks along the tidal Potomac this summer. I fly remote control airplanes and ride my Honda VTX both during the week for my commute and on the weekends for fun.

Well, that's pretty much me in a nutshell. I'm a country-boy by nature who is forced by circumstance to work in the District. I'm looking forward to living in Virginia. It will be nice to be living somewhere where I don't feel like I am under seige all the time.

Take Care,

Shawn

Welcome! Federally, you'll still feel under siege, even here. Statewise, not so much. :welcome:

I'm used to it Federally, as I said, I come from the land of Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell. As it is we've been spending most of our weekends in the Fredericksburg area and every time we cross either the Wilson Bridge or the Harry Nice Bridge it feels as if a weight has been lifted from our chests.

Thanks for the warm welcome all, we are really excited.

I know exactly what you mean with crossing the bridge. I feel it every time I return after visiting relatives in NY.

Welcome. You'll find the VA to be a better atmosphere than MD.

Welcome. I spent 12 years in the People's republic of Maryland. My family and finally moves back to VA last year. Enjoy the real free state but don't take it for granted. We must fight to make sure it stays that way.

Don't worry about that, I believe in fighting. But, you know, the wife and I were talking about it the other day. This gun control package that O'weMalley pushed through may prove to be a gift to all of the conservatives in the Commonwealths of Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Think about it, lets say for example that Maryland is 75% (D) and 25%(R). Pushing out the most conservative, lets say 10% just for the sake of arguement, moves that number inside of Maryland to 85% (D) and 15% (R). It changes nothing inside of Maryland.

BUT...those folks, like myself, who are so fed up that they move, move to Virginia or Pennsylvania. Both of which were formerly solid Red states that have been going purple over the last few years. The exodus of Conservatives out of Maryland could quite easily help to turn the tide in these battlegrounds. I'm actually rather surprised that the national DNC didn't have the foresight to see this and make Owe'Malley back down a little.
