PoliceOne's Gun Control Survey: 11 key lessons from officers' perspectives
The following quotes are the start and end of the article. Make sure to follow the above link and see how the rank and file LEOs really feel about gun control.
In March, PoliceOne conducted the most comprehensive survey ever of American law enforcement officers’ opinions on the topic gripping the nation's attention in recent weeks: gun control.
More than 15,000 verified law enforcement professionals took part in the survey, which aimed to bring together the thoughts and opinions of the only professional group devoted to limiting and defeating gun violence as part of their sworn responsibility.
Totaling just shy of 30 questions, the survey allowed officers across the United States to share their perspectives on issues spanning from gun control and gun violence to gun rights.
Bottom Line Conclusions
Quite clearly, the majority of officers polled oppose the theories brought forth by gun-control advocates who claim that proposed restrictions on weapon capabilities and production would reduce crime.
In fact, many officers responding to this survey seem to feel that those controls will negatively affect their ability to fight violent criminals.
Contrary to what the mainstream media and certain politicians would have us believe, police overwhelmingly favor an armed citizenry, would like to see more guns in the hands of responsible people, and are skeptical of any greater restrictions placed on gun purchase, ownership, or accessibility.
The officers patrolling America’s streets have a deeply-vested interest — and perhaps the most relevant interest — in making sure that decisions related to controlling, monitoring, restricting, as well as supporting and/or prohibiting an armed populace are wise and effective. With this survey, their voice has been heard.

Criminals don't obey laws. It's no more complicated than that. LEO's know this first hand.

Each and every law enforcement officer I have ever spoke with was all for responsible, individual citizens, possessing firearms. An officer cannot be everywhere...even if you post a trooper on each corner.
The men and women who decide how well we're protected aren't the brave women and men in uniform. It's not even the folks in the state and federal legislatures. It's all about us. We the people decide that.
Criminals don't obey laws. Politicians who crave ultimate power don't obey laws. That's why they're both to be resisted.
That is why We the people want our guns.
God bless each of you.

That makes me feel much better. Living and working in cesspools of idiocy and corruption has left me quite jaded and skeptical of LEOs.

I'm STILL jaded, and skeptical of LEO's. LEO forum members, forgive me, I know that there are good ones, but I know that there are bad ones, too. And sometimes it's hard to tell which one I'm talking to.
I'm also skeptical of many other types of government employee, as well. And, government in general.
That said, I am glad to see this report. I wish I knew who the minority LEO's were. I want to steer clear of their juristictions!

Truth. Be wary of anyone who can execute you and get paid vacation for it.

I was glad to see that it was a wide sampling unlike so many other surveys that only poll 250 - 1500 people. I have a little more faith in these numbers then most. The questions looked straight to the point and not confusing with a hidden agenda.

On the other hand, this:

quote:
Richard Ahlstrand, of Auburn, Massachusetts, faces criminal charges after encountering a bear in his back yard and shooting the damned thing to avoid being mauled or eaten. Specifically, as noted at Reason 24/7, he's charged with "illegally killing a bear, illegally baiting a bear, illegal possession of a firearm and failure to secure a firearm." All of these charges, once translated from Massachusetts to American, seem to stack up to outrage that Ahlstrand didn't make his yard completely inhospitable to animals that are rarely seen in the area, and then investigated a suspicious noise with a weapon in hand rather than cower under the bed. Worst of all, he actually defended himself when he encountered danger.

Interesting survey. It certainly flies in the face of what the Dems are claiming.

He should have thought twice before shooting Barney Franks boyfriend.

actually he should know better than to leave 50 gallons of birdseed outside. just inviting trouble, like putting your trash outside for pickup the night before and wondering why the raccoon keep tearing the bags open and making a mess of your yard. common sense, especially if he thought he saw a bear the day before. I've seen first hand what a bear will do to get at a bird feeder. I've had them on my front porch, standing on their hind legs with their front paws on my railing, reaching for my feeder. Scared him off and took in the feeders for the season. I use to see them around every spring and fall when I lived outside of Marshall, VA.

Crap like that is what makes me glad I moved out of MA, what's BS is that he was supposedly in "illegal possession" of the guns. In MA you do need a permit in general but it's not hard to get and that's probably why there screwing with him. I don't miss the Commiewealth of MA at all.
