I recieved this email from the PW County TEA Party and thought that I would share it. I will be calling Corery today and I hope that others that live in Prince William county will do the same.
Contact Prince William County Supervisors Today to Stop Regional Council Support for Gun Control
Your county tax dollars are funding a regional group that is promoting gun control. Your action is needed to stop it.
On March 13, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) adopted Resolution R13-13 by a 15-5 vote endorsing an anti-gun position paper from the notoriously anti-gun International Association of Chiefs of Police. MWCOG is a non- profit association of DC-area elected officials from 22 local jurisdictions in the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland and northern Virginia that deals with regional issues such as transportation. This IACP position paper calls for banning pseudo “assault weapons,” criminalizing the private sale/transfer of firearms between individuals, opposing national concealed carry reciprocity, imposing national “waiting period” for handgun purchases as well as other gun control measures.
The following day on March 14, the Loudoun County (Virginia) Board of Supervisors voted unanimously during its budget work session to withhold the county’s Fiscal Year 2014 $250,000 MWCOG membership dues payment unless the MWCOG Board reverses its action on the IACP gun ban resolution. On March 18, the Board sent a letter to the MWCOG stating: “It is the position of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors that the policy resolution adopted by the MWCOG Board of Directors is both inappropriate and disrespectful of the individual positions of the member governments and our law enforcement entities.”
On March 20, the Frederick County (Maryland) Commission Chairman sent a very similar letter to the MWCOG saying that Frederick County would also withhold its 2014 MWGOC membership dues to the unless the MWCOG reconsiders its stance on the IACP gun ban resolution. The same day, the Fairfax City (Virginia) Mayor sent a letter to the MWCOG urging them to withdraw their gun control resolution.
While Prince William County was not represented at the MWCOG meeting on March 13, the next MWCOG meeting is scheduled for April 10 when its board can consider its position on the IACP gun ban resolution.
Prince William County spends hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to be a member of the MWCOG. Should your money be spent supporting an organization that seeks to undermine your Second Amendment rights? Of course not, and your immediate action is needed to stop it.
It is critical that you contact your elected officials in Prince William County and urge them to stop supporting and funding a group that is promoting federal gun control legislation. Using the contact information provided below, please call AND e-mail Board Chairman Corey Stewart AND the County Supervisor in your magisterial district, and demand that they oppose spending your money to fund the MWCOG.
