i wanted some advice. i want to buy a shotgun(mossberg 500 persuader. yea im a mossberg guy lol) but im only 17 n i have to be 18 to buy one. should i get my bro(hes 21 or 22) to buy it for me or jus wait till im 18, if i get him to buy it it will be registered in his nam.... or can i get it registered in my name?, what are the disadvantages of it being in his name but its my gun?. i dont want to wait till im 18 but if i have to i will.

I would advise that you should wait until you're 18 and go through the proper background process and purchase it yourself.

There isn't any "registration" in Virginia. You just have to pass a background check - you're not really registering the firearm.

I second Rick's comment on waiting until you're 18. Your first step to becoming a responsible gun owner should be just that. Responsible.

Mostly Winchester AA's and Fiocchi low-recoil in #00 & rifled slugs. The Fiocchi rounds are what I keep handy for home defense.

Alternatively, your brother could purchase it now and let you use it (ideally, when he is present) and he could take responsibilty for storing/securing it for the time being. When you turn 18, you and he could both sign a dated bill of sale type document that would transfer ownership to you - this is not required by law, but would make the transaction official in the eyes of the federalies in the event they have a need to question you or your brother about the shotgun in the future.
All that being said, is a year really that long to wait? Maybe you could use that time to save up a little more $, do more research, and decide that you really want a Remington 870

+1, I love my Remingtons but I would definatley love to have a 500.
