Hey guys, I'm going to be in Charlottesville for the next several weeks. I wanted to visit several shops in the area. I enjoy hunting, target and general plinking. Basically, I can find something that I like in almost any shop, so I'd really appreciate any recomendations you have.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

If you Google "Gun Shops in Charlottesville Virginia" you will see what's out there. I know there is one right before UVA.

Woodbrook sports on Woodbrook Drive. Terrapins in Orange isn't too far. There's a pawn shop in Ruckersville that sells guns, I've been meaning to stop by it but haven't had the chance. Dick's and Wal-Mart. That's about all I know of in the area.

I was passing through Orange this weekend on my way to Lake Monticello to play golf at Spring Creek, (VERY NICE COURSE!!!) and stopped in Terrapins. Walt and the Misses were present in fine fiddle...he endured my endless stream of questions and happily looked up the prices for a slug barrell for a 11-87 and other stuff...had the catalog out, shoulder to shoulder, and showed me the prices that he had to pay. and just said add about 10% for my cost...these folks are straight up!
they were -well- stocked with ammo...almost every calibre, while i was there a gent came in asking for .30 carbine ammo...after saying, "ugh..don;t think so"...then searching in the back for a couple of mins "yep..here ya go...last 2 boxes"... prices were not cheap, nor expensive for ammo...and overall there firearm prices were competitive...
They had a 2 glass cases of pistols, a decent selection of rifles and some nice shotguns...both used and new...a not a bad rack of Ar-15's either, etc...it was the not the selction of loudoun guns, but the wooden floors and and "old gun shop" atmoshphere, and the 2 wonderfully nice people behind the counter just made the entire exp great...
and yes, i saw a used stainless Buckmark .22 pistol with a 5+" inch barrell for $220 that i just had to have...actually been looking for one for a few months and found the Walther, but wanted the buckmark as well...sooooooooooo now i happily own both
GBA!
So after they stayed open late just to get my "all clear" from the state police for a purchase (born under a SOFA VISA overseas, so am delayed EVERY SINGLE TIME...UGH) , so i that i didn't have to trek back down from Loudoun, and after money exchanged hands, pistol packed away, and goodbyes were said, on my way out the door, just to make the scene complete, he hands me a full box of Remington Cyclones and says "here, that thing ain't gonna do you no good empty..." HERE HERE!!!
Terrapins for the WIN!!

Yeah, he typically throws in a box of ammo with anything you purchase from him. Assuming he has that particular ammo on hand. He doesn't have any .380 ammo though. He told me the last shipment he got had 1 box of .380 in it and he owned a .380 so it went home with him, I don't bame him a bit either.
He's got a nice little shop there, quite a few old items- guns, ammo boxes, etc- that are not for sale. If you are looking for something and happen in there ask him if you don't see it. He sometimes keeps guns in the back so he may have something you want even if you don't see it.

Well, he certainly made me feel both Valued & Welcome as a Customer...and with some shops, that is a challenge,...i mean the items that we purchase from these dealers are not cheap, and i realize that it is a distinct possiblity that i just have gotten old and crotchity, but i just don't want to deal with people or organization that are doing me a favor by taking my money...now, granted, it is not always the case that we have a choice, which makes it all the more important to vote with your $$$ when you do have that choice...
And i think every shop should throw in a box of ammo with a purchase...as i have bought a few of firearms in my day, but NEVER gotten any free ammo with any of them...and if he does this with every purchase, that much more impressive...( as i already know that i am special

) and can't wait for my next free box of ammo..
So the value he will get for a $5 box of .22's, will be a great little gun store story for anyone who cares to listen and a repeat customer that will stop in every time I am in Orange...

Sounds like I should take a drive to Orange county, you know a day trip.
