On of the main arguments from the anti gun crowd is that you don't need a firearm to protect you and your family because the police are just minutes away.
What happens if they are days or weeks away?

It's a matter of one question: Do you want to put your safety in your hands, or someone elses?
Period.

They like the big government telling them "it's for your own safety". I say my safety is my problem if I want to drive under the risk of flying out the windshield it's my problem, if I want to drink myself to death it's my problem, and if I want to shoot that scumbag that breaks in my house well that's my problem too!

That's really a false statement. You can never really transfer your "risk of being injured or dying" to another person. The best you can do is hire someone to preform a set of risk mitigation tasks, which do help, but can not reduce the risk to zero, nor transfer the negative impacts. This isn't like property insurance where once the negative impact has occurred, the insurance company you paid for will step in and cover the losses. For example, health insurance doesn't mitigate the risk of health problems, it's just a mechanism for shifting the financial responsibility to another entity. The police are basically like doctors, paid professionals who perform risk mitigation activities, but can not incur the actual risk to you. They can also put themselves at risk though.

Well yeah! 14 man days of food will feed an entire squad of goons for a whole day.
What... you think that if the second amendment falls the third will stand?

I like all of the government's recent prepper advice!
2 weeks of food & water on hand? Check.
Buy a shotgun? Couldn't hurt to have another 12ga.
Keep batteries and first aid gear on hand? Done and done.
Learn emergency trauma/medical techniques like suturing and use of a tourniquet? Yep.
Keep a "get home bag" at work? You betcha.
Keep a kit in your car? Always have.
If only more people did these simple things, events like Hurricane Katrina would bring communities together for survival, with neighbors helping neighbors - instead of tearing communities apart as the unprepared ask where help might come from, only to realize they're on their own as panic and chaos set in...

Cops don't prevent crime, they respond to it. When are these idiot morons gonna figure this out?

Even our adult daughter who used to roll her eyes

when I'd mention prepping no longer does so.
She was hesitant when I gave her a stocked bug-out bag but now was been getting familiar with it and has asked me about a few items to add/remove based on weight. The goal of the bag is to provide her with some of the essentials to get herself to our place if "something bad" happens (ie, house fire, etc).
Even some of my wife's quilting/knitting/craft group has been asking me about what foods to add to their pantry if "something should happen". The most simplistic adivce I can give them is to "Prep what you eat, and eat what you prep." Don't fill the pantry/pantries with foods you don't like or know how to prepare.
Now where did I put my Costco card .........

Telling you! Something is up!
There are quite a few people who are getting over their "eye rolling", and taking it more seriously!
Something that comes in hand? A vaccuum sealer, it makes rice, dried beans, instant potatoes, and pasta last longer (Not indefinitely), but you put those in a rotation? You're set!
You can survive off beans, rice, some survival veggie picking, and a few snare traps (in the city)... We'll see if rat taste like pumpkin pie Jules.

Maybe people will take heed and actually prepare, and we will not have the riots and caos that is being predicted.
Nah what am I thinking. Not everyone will listen so we will still have those who did not prep trying to take what they can. I was trying to be hopeful.
