I joined the IWLA last weekend during the annual prospective member class! I was even able to knock out my six hours of volunteer work by Sunday afternoon.

I'm a pistol/rifle shooter mainly, but really want to try Trap shooting. Can anyone suggest a good starter Trap shotgun?

I love my Remington 1187, 28" bbl. The lightweight barrel makes it easy to swing, and it points naturally. Mine came with 3 or 4 chokes, I forget. I shoot trap with the Improved choke. It's not just a starter, its the only trap gun I've ever needed.

I bought a Benelli Montefeltro and have been happy with it. It's not an expensive O/U but I wanted something I could break clay and hunt with.

I'd love to hear your opinion on the facilities and the member at IWLA fairfax as I've been considering joining as well.

depends on your budget.....for me, a used Browning over/under.....if you are a casual shooter, any Browning over/under will do (I prefer 32" barrels)....for trap, a lot of trapshooters like a "high" shooting gun, thus they buy a gun with a Monte Carlo stock and high rib. But a flat rib and regular sporting stock would be fine as well.

For semi-auto, a lot of people will say the good ole Beretta 391 (or used 390). I prefer at least a 30" barrel on a semi-auto. But look for a used semi-auto first in excellent condition at a good price....I prefer gas autos so Browning/Winchester, Beretta, or Remington will be my choices.
