Where to live in VA, work in MD-King George?

Hi all-This is my first "real post" but I did some searching first...
I'm looking at getting stationed at Andrews in the not to distant future. I really DO NOT want to live in MD if I can help it-I did that for most of 20 years and would rather not start again. I'm looking at area of VA close enough to drive up to the base, but still have a bit of land (couple+ acres) in the country as much as possible.
Pretty much it looks like this leaves me King George County near rt301
I'm wondering how the shooting and general outdoors laws are down there. The only VA experience I've had is country enough that a friend of ours had a backyard range and the other is 100+acres on the eastern shore. I spent a lot of time in WV shooting, riding ATV's etc.
I want the kids to have 4wheelers and/or go karts. I want a nice pole building(aka my garage) away from the house. Private enough that if I have a truck next to the garage without a motor nobody can see, let alone care-besides the wife:-)
I have found some properties in budget 45min drive avg.
How much land do you need down that way to comfortably shoot at home, and/or hunt in your own woods?
Any issues with off road toys on private property?
I know to RUN from anything that says HOA in the listing.
Anyone live in the area and work up north?
Thank you and please let me know opinions and information,
Brian
