Hopefully moving to VA

Hi all,

I joined up here to get some good information. It looks like I may be moving east (currently stationed in NE) and would love to live in VA. I grew up in MD and PA, spent a ton of time in WV, not as much in VA though. I have family on the Eastern Shore, VA and really like the state, laws, etc.

I spent most of my life within 45min of Baltimore (when not in the city) and know I do not want to live any closer to Andrews AFB than possible and prefer VA. I'm a shooter, newer hunter, sailor, general outdoors type with a family.

Look forward to learning what I can and contributing when possible.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Welcome
You moving from Offutt or Lincoln? Dad was A.F. and got transferred to the puzzle palace on the Potomac in 1960.

Offutt - my dad was stationed there. Used to ride my bicycle all over creation, esp around the hospital near leewood oaks. LOL Open house was always great.

Welcome to the forums. I am in Yorktown and came back to Virginia in 1981. Been here ever since then.

Now, that is the just the kind of info I am seeking as I also am moving to Virginia (or NC, or TN) ANYWHERE BUT MD!

For any even considering an insane idea like settling down in MD, the top issues and new laws of the liberal brain dead in MD this year are: ban death penalties; legalize marijuana; further and draconian restrictions of the rights of law-abiding (honest!) citizens to own certain firearms and mag-caps, in yet another step toward MD's ultimate goal: an all-out ban 'ala DC, Puerto Rico, CA, etc.

I have been doing research and thus far learned from my fellow VGOF that there are certain "pockets" of liberal, anti-gun (or , at least anti-shooting) best avoided by avid firearms enthusiasts, such as myself (I believe Amelia [or, is it Albernmarle?], Charlottsville proper and Culpepper proper?) Please correct me if I am wrong and I'll edit my post.

OP, I understand your need to stay within commute of AAFB and I am balancing the wife's desire to stay within an 8-hour drive of the grandkids in So. MD (Calvert County) and my goal of having at least 4 or 5 (or more!) rifle, pistol and clays ranges within a 45- to 60- minute drive!

"Maryland: Last gun owner out, flush, please . . .."

Maryland have a look at the Richmond area. We have two indoor ranges, one sporting range, 4 or 5 out door rifle ranges. These are the ones that I know of.
Some of the out door ranges also have sporting clays, trap and skeet.

Thanks gents! Yes, I've shot Old Forge and shopped Green Top several times. This morning, I used wheretoshoot.org and claytargetsonline to "pin map" a host of ranges in a rough circle. Drew and "X" in the middle of each circle, printed 'em out and slipped in front of the wife at lunch. In police work they call that, "a clue!". ;-)

Find a spot along the 95 corridor. If you are commissioned the affordability should not be a problem. If you are along 95 we have some terrific transportation systems to include very and metro.
