Employees of Obama donor Leo Hindery Jr.’s media conglomerate Intermedia Partners, which now owns most of the top gun-culture media outlets in the country, believe that Hindery plans to gut and destroy all of them as part of a business plan that has already led to numerous layoffs and the virtual shuttering of prominent television production facilities in Minnesota and Montana.

Hindery, who was in consideration to be President Barack Obama’s secretary of commerce, is managing partner of Intermedia Partners. The New York-based media private equity fund owns Intermedia Outdoor Holdings, which publishes 17 hunting, fishing, and shooting magazines, including Guns & Ammo, Handguns, Gun Dog, Rifle Shooter and Shooting Times.

InterMedia Outdoor Holdings purchased the pro-gun hunting and fishing network the Sportsman Channel in 2007, and is now in the process of acquiring the Outdoor Channel, pending the federal government’s approval of last month’s merger between InterMedia Outdoors and Outdoor Channel Holdings.

InterMedia employees believe that Hindery, a Huffington Post blogger who has contributed to numerous Democratic politicians including Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren, is in the process of consolidating all of America’s leading gun-culture media outlets and stripping them down to virtual destruction.
Mr. Petersen must be spinning in his grave.

Isn't that just spending a lot of money for nothing? Unless there's legislation that prohibits future outdoors magazines or stations from starting, won't someone come along and see this glaring opportunity in the market and create a new magazine or station?

CORRECT!

Many a day I had thought about starting my own "rag" because hunters, and gun owners, and outdoorsman, are usually one, and the same.

It struck me as odd as well, but how else to explain the acquisition and diminution of gun-related titles? I'm sure that the .gov will arrange to channel profitable business to Hindery's company to make up for any losses on the shuttered operations.

I suppose the proof will be shown in the eventual handling of the Outdoor Channel acquisition.

Not necessarily. It would be effective if they only wanted to control the message rather than remove the voice. Consider that the NRA has only recently warmed up to tactical shooters, SD/HD, and NFA. It wasn't but a few years ago that Advanced Armament was told not to show up the NRA show. Rather than destroy the outlets, simply refocus their message and attempt to prevent more "evil" things like suppressors from becoming mainstream. Slowly disallow or limit ads for SD/HD products unless it's a double-barreled Joe Special. No NFA ads or NFA trust agents. Edit things into reviews and look disfavorably upon "non-hunting" products like AR15s, SBRs, intermediate cartridges like 5.56mm, 300BLK, 7.62x39, etc. as inhumane.

Basically you bias the debate by getting "gun owners" to not understand or like their own. This is why the hunting use argument is so popular, for several decades even pro-gun groups pushed the idea of the 2nd being about hunting and that split the gun community.

Consider it a political false flag operation.

Think of this, COMCAST is no longer allowing Firearms/Firearms related advertisment on it's band on a NATIONAL level!

I'd say Gunderwood is right on the money. Because if they stay in, even with a vastly adulterated product, they are a barrier to new entrants and by their very presence are "splitting the market". New entrants to the market will also be at a disadvantage because they will be building a new infrastructure at new prices and bearing startup costs with no established audience or source of income. So I guess we just need to get ready to watch "hunting shows" where they stalk with a freakin' camera - or not; just go out and do it for yourself.

That is by far more dangerous than just shuttering the operation. I have seen them using the hunting argument so it makes perfect sense that this would be the next step.
