On Feb. 19, the Arkansas state legislature passed legislation protecting the names of concealed carry permit holders from being released under state Freedom of Information Act requests. On Feb. 22, Arkansas Lt. Gov. Mark Darr signed the bill into law.

In the time between the passage of the legislation and its being signed into law, Arkansas Business editor Gwen Moritz took advantage of her one last chance to post the names of concealed permit holders for all to see.

The outcry over the publication of the names was go great, that Arkansas Business quickly took the list down.

At the request of a number of licensees who were concerned that they might be targeted by criminals, Arkansas Business has voluntarily removed a link to a spreadsheet of concealed carry licensees generated by the Arkansas State Police on Friday morning before the information was exempted from the State Freedom of Information Act. Alternately, the local sheriff could put out a press release saying that she will be denied a permit, having proven that she is not responsible enough to carry a firearm.

Well, at least she gets it now:

Lesson No. 4: They don’t want to hurt me. As far as I know, I haven’t received any actual death threats, not even from the people who thought it was a proportional response to post directions to my house on the Internet. This remarkable fact underscores a point that gun aficionados have tried to make until they are blue in the face: They are not criminals. They posted my personal information all over the Internet in hopes that I would feel as vulnerable and exposed to criminals as they do. They seek to intimidate me as they feel they have been intimidated, to bully me in response to what they see as my bullying. They might think I deserve to become the target of crime because they feel I have made them targets. But the people who are angry with me do not seem to want to hurt me, because they truly see themselves as the good guys with guns. This, I think, may be the most valuable lesson I can share with the people who are concerned about my safety.

There was none of the humility from the wastes of space in NY when they got a taste of their own medicine; they just hired armed guards.

I think the above is more condescending than humble. But then, I ain't a damnyankee.

If I were on the Board of Directors of Arkansas Business (or otherwise able to get the job done), I'd be doing my best to remediate her actions by seeing that they fired her ass.

She knew it was passing, she knew the environ, and she chose to act like an azzhat... Fire her.

Just to be clear, what she ought to be fired for is NOT because she isn't a drooling gun nut like I would be portrayed to be if I were trying to get her fired. What she clearly ought to be fired for is a pure business reason: using her job and the company she worked for (and its resources) to pursue her own ideological ends; probably to the great displeasure of a large part of her readership. A rough analogy would be that if you stole the company car and put it in a parade, you should be fired for unauthorized use whether you put it in a gay pride parade or the 4th of July parade.

What a major bitch! She didn't learn her lesson. She may have taken the list itself off the internet, but she is still emailing copies to anyone who asks for it!

Yea, she needs to get fired. And God forbid anyone gets hurt or killed and the crime can be traced back to her providing this information... but if that happens, she should be charge with criminal contributory negligence and tossed in jail with some actual criminals. Then we'll she just how slick she thinks she is.

This really angers me. I was stationed in Arkansas prior to transferring here this past summer. I had an Arkansas concealed carry permit and as far as Arkansas is concerned, I still do. Now the nice young couple with a newborn baby that moved into the house we were renting could possibly be targeted by some criminal because of this woman's idiocy.
