New Taurus

Finally decided a couple days ago to give taurus a chance, bought a pt 24/7 compact. Went to the local gun and tackle shop to pick up some buckshot to rotate my current stock and well of course i have to walk past the gun counter, even knowing that they havent had anything good in stock for a month now. They had a Beretta Nano that caught my eye, been keeping my eyes open for a good ccw seeing as how i will soon be a proud Virginian where unlike maryland you have the right to defend yourself in places other than your home. It seemed like a well made little compact, ive always been a fan of beretta. The price was a little higher than i was willing to go on it though and it was a little thin for my large gands. So as i was about to walk away i spotted some type of compact simi auto on the bottom shelf. Turned out to be a taurus pt 24/7 compact, came with a standard 11 round mag and a extended 15 round mag with a extension sleeve. Me being a lefty, the first thing i noticed was ambi mag release, safety/decocker and slide release. Long story short the rest of the gun seemed great, felt good, looked good and price wasnt to bad at $490 concidering the market right now :packin: . Ive never had a taurus and have heard they have made major improvements and their warranty seems to back that up so i went ahead and got it. Well not really got it, just paid for it, the guy doing my paperwork said it would probably be about 35 days before the background check clears and i can pick it up  . Just wanted to see if anyone on here has one of these and if so how do you like it, any problems ? Im sure its going to be an adventure finding a good Lefty holster for it. Id like to find one iwb and one owb.

Yup... last handgun i bought was a couple years ago and was from there and the wait was about 8 days. They said there is nothing they can do about it, its the background checks takng forever due to everyone and their mother buying any gun they can get their hands on. Not to mention Ammo at least around here is pretty much impossible to find now, everything from 22 - 45

Not a chance, Maryland is a mandatory 7 day minimum wait, and its pretty much ALWAYS longer than 7 days. Just another thing that i will not miss !! how long does it usually take in VA from the time you fill out the papers till the time you can actually take the gun home ?

Ah. Didn't realize you were in Maryland. As far as VA goes.... 15 minutes or so (barring background check difficulties).

Just another reason to move, along with MANY others.

you couldnt even buy a Marlin 60 in 15 minutes over here. Just buying a shotgun here is like buying a new car..

I had a PT series and had no issues with it. I sold it because it was single action and i did not like carrying it with a manual safety. All my other carry pieces are safe action or double action. I didn't want to have to remember what i was carrying and in what condition.

I thought about trading it in on a 24/7 since it had the decocker and could be carried in double action for the first round.

But ended up with a XDs instead.

Enjoy it. Don't let people poopoo it because it's Taurus. They have made vast improvements in the recent years. Lifetime warranty to boot.

I love Taurus. I know a lot of people don't or say they don't because they're supposed to but I have nothing but good luck with them. I have the PT111 9mm, the PT92 9mm, the 745 45acp, the judge and the 66 357. Each of them have shot as well as any other gun I own or better. I got the 745 as an alternative to the glock 36. I have two glocks 17 and 27 but as a carry gun, I just like safeties. I'm glad I got it as it saved me a bunch of money and it's more in line with what I want.

Everyone puts out lemons including Taurus. The only lemon I've ever owned was a smith 29. Got rid of it but I don't think smith and wesson is bad because of it. But my Taurus guns are great.

I own a compact Taurus PT145 Millennium Pro 24/7 .45acp, check the the "take down" pin very closely, they are known to crack and become lodged in the gun. The gun cannot be broken down for cleaning. This is the current condition of mine, and has happened to other owners. The gun has not given me any other problems, with over 3000 rds. it has performed flawlessly.

well i hope to have good luck with it like you guys have with yours. and im trying to find holsters for it, but being left handed thats not easy. I want to find a owb and iwb for both oc and eventually cc. on top of that, the ongoing struggle to find ammo is really getting annoying. Is the ammo shortage as bad in VA as is it over here ? ill be making another trip over there in the next few days probably to orange county and madison county areas and was thinking i should keep my eyes open for gun shops while im over there.

I picked up a New Taurus Millennium PT 140 PRO .40 S & W this morning at Bob's on RT 360. Great service there as always... 15 minutes tops and out the door ! I've had a Ruger ordered for 3 weeks and nothing yet so I decided to give Taurus a Chance. :pistol:

I have a PT 145 Mil Pro, but I am trying to work out some FTF issues. When it shoots it shoots good, but I had to have the magazine release fixed as it was causing the magazines to fall out when I fired the gun. At first I thought it was just me hitting the mag release, but I changed my grip and that wasn't it. Taurus fixed the mag release (it was cracked) and I got it back. The mags stay in but I get FTF's now. As soon as I get a chance, I am going to polish the ramp. Otherwise it's a good gun and when I get it working reliably, I may start carrying it again. But until then, I'll stick with my S&W M&P 40c.

Just an update, i paid for this Taurus on 02/23, which was 39 days ago. I called the gun shop yesterday to check, he said he is just now getting back paperwork for orders from the begining of February. He said it will probably be another 2 weeks before i can pick her up.... I have also talked to a couple different friends around here that have bought handguns recently and have had to deal with the same crazy wait times. Only a couple more months left as a Maryland resident, and it cant come fast enough. I did happen to stop by a shop last week while i was passing through warrenton, dont remember the name but it had a bear on the roof. Picked up what little ammo i could find, seemed like a nice place, friendly people.
