Beretta may leave Maryland

Beretta’s future in Maryland tied to state’s gun-control debate
.
.
.
Now Beretta is weighing whether the rifle line, and perhaps the company itself, should stay in a place increasingly hostile toward its products. Its iconic 9mm pistol — carried by every U.S. soldier and scores of police departments — would also be banned with its high capacity, 13-bullet magazine.
“Why expand in a place where the people who built the gun couldn’t buy it?” said Jeffrey Reh, general counsel for Beretta.
Concern that the company will leave, and take its 300 jobs with it, is palpable among state lawmakers who worry it could be collateral damage from Gov. Martin O’Malley’s proposed gun-control bill.

King George VA would be a good place for them. We need more businesses here.

Very happy to see Beretta being bold and making this statement. Being an older company with a major military contract I wouldn't have been surprised to see them lay low. Someone mentioned Beretta already has some stuff in Fredricksburg so the move would make sense for them.

KUDOS! I think this is the FIRST VOLLEY by a BIG MANUFACTURER!
Wait till all the companies in New England, Left Coast, and Midwest MOVE to better political environments!
It'll shake things up on Capital Hill for sure!

That would be a good move....... First attract all the arms manufacturers to move into your state, THEN secede.

I spend a lot of time on MD Shooters forum. Gov. Owe"Malley doesn't care if Beretta leaves, even with the job losses. Senator Frosh railroaded that AWB bill through his committee after the initial hearing where close to 4000 people showed up AGAINST the bill. A person representing Beretta told them if this bill passes, they're leaving Maryland. They still voted for it in committee, and it's going to the Senate floor.

Beretta should leave Maryland. Remington and Kimber should leave New York. Smith & Wesson and Savage should leave Massachusetts. If Connecticut passes more idiotic gun laws, Colt should leave as well. If possible, move the trained workers as well.
You don't like our products or customers? Well, bye.
Last I heard, around eight states are offering Remington sweetheart deals to move to their state.
I keep my fingers crossed that they accept one of those offers.

Hopefully Beretta follows MagPul's example and hits Maryland where it hurts: in the pocketbook. Beretta pays a few million dollars annually in taxes for Maryland, and their employees do too. I for one would be happy to have Beretta here in VA.
The company’s Italian patriarch, Ugo Gussalli Beretta, visited the plant shortly after O’Malley introduced his gun-control bill, and the two discussed the issue. But Reh declined to say if the two reached any decisions about what would happen if the governor’s bill passes.
“All I can tell you is, Mr. Beretta said, ‘There always seems to be a problem with Maryland.’ ”

I bought my 92fs in 1992. I think it is about for them to leave the anti-gun state and not sell to anyone in ban states.
Who has their email contact info? I think they need a little push.
I am thinking an updated 92fs with rail is in order if they move.

Virginia needs to make phone calls and send out reps to these firearms, ammo manufacturers and firearms accessory makers.

Hopefully McDonnell has already been placing calls to get them to move their MD facilities to our state. Nice to see more industry taking a stand unlike what many of them did back in the 90's.

If I were Beretta I would not commit to expanding in Virginia until after this year's election. I would not expand in a state that had a Democrat governor, especially not a party hack like McAuliffe.
