I hope someone here will be able to help me out ...

I recently moved from FL to VA (literally, JUST received my DL for VA in the mail the other day.)

I just purchased a firearm online and am having it shipped to a local FFL; however, when I asked the FFL how long I had to wait to pick up the firearm, he told me I would have to wait 30 days from the date my DL was issued. Is that the case? I have a FL CCW, which, according to the state, is fully reciprocated as a FL-resident CCW, even though I am now a VA resident ... Is it true that I have to wait 30 days? Disappointing to say the least ...

That is the case...same thing just happened to a friend after he moved here from Delaware...he had a gun sent from a dealer to my FFL...and went to pick it up two days after getting his VA DL...was told to come back when the DL was 30 days old...

Thank you for replying so quickly ... I never knew of this law -- also, is it true that I have to present two forms of ID? I would REALLY appreciate if someone could explain the logic of that. So I understand everything, VA has no 'wait' period on the purchase of firearms? (After the initial 30 days of residency, obviously? I can just go in and pick out a gun and walk out with it?

As far as I know from when I bought my beretta, yes. I showed my military ID, Drivers License and my phone bill. Your SS card, birth certificate, or passport will suffice so for a 2nd form of ID. The bill is to prove that your a resident of VA.

No. Not true.

You have to produce 2 documents that provide evidence of Virginia residency.

Its the law, I'm not going to try and inject logic into law, its not worth trying.

Thats kinda exactly what no-wait means. (after the, usually instant, background check)

Well, at least I.ll only have a week or so to wait once the gun arrives.

You do have to provide two forms of ID if you are buying anything VA considers an "assault weapon". Recently had to show my voter card to get a pistol with a threaded barrel.

Also, I can confirm the 30 day rule. I lived in CA for 18 months and when I moved back I had to wait to buy a gun.
