Any thoughts on when/if the AR's might start dropping in price?

They are starting to drop down. On another forum someone actually charted and trended the prices, looking at the charts it's dropping substantially every day. Here's the link:

Don't get me wrong though there's still allot of folks wanting top dollar for items, however, it appears not allot of buyers willing to pay that much.

Just me...Give it time...allot of these folks rushed to the stores over brought using credit cards...They'll have to pay the piper soon so you'll see some bargains I bet

Been watching the updates from Sterling Arsenal (grumble, grumble) on FB - looks like prices are starting to come back down. Don't know if they're starting to take orders yet or not.

Not to thread-jack, since it is a related topic: When the heck will we start to see stripped AR lowers available again? I don't want an entire gun; building it myself is going to be half the fun. Just can't find a nice aluminum lower in stock anyplace.

Are you looking for forged or billet? I've seen a few billet recently, but not many forged (for a reasonable price). If you follow Slick Guns, they tend to post them when they're in-stock, but you have to order fast, they usually sell out within 30 minutes. There were polymer lowers posted today for $89.

Looks like they did a decent job at it too. Addressed most of my objections with their process. Still looks like a 20-30% markup though.

It took about 4 months back in '09 for prices and inventory to normalize. I don't see that sort of quick turnaround now. We are in a completely different situation today.

The kind that ends up in history books.

Income tax refunds are probably fueling it, too.

Forged would be my ideal, but since this will be my first build, billet would be fine as long as it's a reputable manufacturer. Only thing I don't want is polymer.

Underwater, at the very least you can place a backorder at one of the reputable stripped lower manufacturers that is taking pre-orders, such as Shadow Ops Weaponry or Quentin Defense, until you find one in stock elsewhere. This way you end up with one no matter what -- it may just take longer to acquire than you like. And yes, stay away from polymer. I don't trust them.

I know Shadow Ops currently show as "out of stock," but they will be selling pre-orders for the next production batch soon, so keep checking the site. I own a Shadow Ops SO-308D AR-10 lower, and the "Navy" & "Army" versions of AR-15 lowers from Quentin Defense, so I can vouch for the quality of both. They are billet aluminum. I have several Noveske forged Gen 2 lowers as well, and recently sold some S&W M&P15 lowers. Suffice to say, I started buying them up for future builds the day Obama got re-elected.

To the original point, I think things will be back to normal in another 3-4 months -- unless of course a gun bill makes it through Congress, or a state gun bill makes it through the Virginia legislature, or Obama seizes more control through executive fiat, or another mass shooting occurs. So yeah, buy what you can because you just never know.

Best I've found on a billet lower is $199. Still too pricey for me.

The prices have already begun dropping I'd say after April is when you're going see things normalize a bit. A good way to get a feeling is to watch sites like gunbroker. You can see what people are actually paying out versus the level of demand. Granted it's only a tiny slice of the pie but worth noting. The going rate for what someone is willing to pay for a Bushmaster has dropped to around 1400. The actual availability seems to be going up albeit still marked up, because now, everyone is hoarding magazines. Which doesn't show any signs of slowing.

However, the new bills including the new AWB all hit the Senate later this month possibly April I'm understanding. If they fly through the Senate it still has to go back to the House where it will probably be killed. Everyone will relax and things will go back to normal.

Actually things might even get better for us in Virginia. Because then say in a year's time, after all the individual states have done their thing, think about it. You're going to have states who've shutdown their entire market for certain weapons. Those will be shipped to more friendly places like....Virginia!!!!! Maybe that's wishful thinking but, I mean they're going to have to make money where they can and Colorado and New York just removed themselves altogether.....

Widners has LRB forged lowers for $189.

Unfortunately, after looking more into them more, LRB don't actually manufacture those. They're subed out and quality varies. Kind of surprised a quality shop like LRB would put their name on a mid-grade product like that. Previously were probably only $100 lowers.

$190 would be a decent price if they were higher end lowers like Noveske, DD, Colt, etc.

If you can truly hold off? Wait till all these folks who bought one, but didn't really NEED one, or understand why they should have one, get into a tough bind with the economy...

You'll get one for pennies on the dollar.

Give it about three months! That should give all this gun grabbing trend time to settle down. And like Rev stated wait for the band wagoneers to start thinking twice about their purchases then swoop in and get one at a good price. As the clerk at my favorite gun store said the second you purchase it even if you just walked out the door the value of the gun goes down considerably!

But don't we really need the legislative shoe to drop to see what really happens? There still is stuff going on at the federal level, minimally.

I'd guess that things would settle down when that becomes clearer as being less hostile.

I just bought a brand new DPMS stripped lower last Thursday at Quantico Tactical for $117 and 3 30 round Pmags for $12.95 each.
