Newbie in Tyson's Corner

Hey people, so I just moved here to NoVa from Detroit a few months ago. I went to school in Indiana and I guess one could say that's where my affinity for firearms began. A buddy of mine had a fantastic collection for a college kid (around $25K invested), so needless to say, I was always up for hitting the range when he offered.
I have loved just about everything I've shot, but I've got a lot left to try out. At the moment, I would say my favorite is the AR-15 (I don't know enough to specify on this, though.. true n00b). I love what a clean shot it is.
I am definitely looking to purchase my first firearm here soon, but first I need to register with the state of Virginia as a resident. I've been waiting until now since my time here has been tentative, but now with a new position confirmed, I'm ready to make the change and start picking up some new toys!
It's too bad I am only just now preparing to get my VA residency considering I only just learned about the Dulles gun show this weekend... sigh...
Anyway, just wanted to say hi, that I'm looking forward to learning a lot, and apologize in advance for all the stupid questions I'm about to ask. Thanks folks.
