Torn, USP .45 or HK45

I currently own a HK USP .40 Full size. I love the weapon for a multiple of reasons. But am not to fond of how the round handles compared to its .45 counterparts. Because of this I am thinking of moving up to either a HK USP .45 or the HK45.

When it comes down to it they are very similar weapons. Both frames are reliable, durable, etc, etc. But what stands out for each one? So far I lean more for the HK45 because of the smaller more comfortable/ customization options of the grip and the easier to use front rail system that doesn't need an adapter.

What are some of your suggestions, reasons, comments?

The USP45 (full size) has a 12-round magazine, whereas the HK45 has a 10-rounder in order to fit the backstrap system. If you don't mind the 2 less rounds, go with the HK45. People in the know rave about it being the best .45 on the market. The only reasons, in my opinion, to go with the USP.45 over it would be 1) it's cheaper, 2) it has two more rounds, and 3) you just dig it more. I don't think the HK45 has many disadvantages over the USP, if any.

What does "not fond of how the round handles" mean? Recoil? How do you think .45 is different?

I was able shoot one a few months ago and was underwhelmed. It's a good gun, but I wouldn't say best thing on the market (fan boys, nothing more). I did't care for the long trigger pull/reset and high bore axis; never was a big fan of the USP though, which the HK45 is just a tweaked USP. Thought the FNP-45 tactical was a slightly better gun, but still didn't like the high bore axis. I think both are overpriced for what they are. Just my two cents.

The HK45 is essentially a USP version 2.0. I have both, and like the HK45 more. Prefer the beter ergonomics, adaptable grip, standard accessory rail.

If you are actually going to practice, the gun is basically free vs. the cost of ammo & range time. Figure what 2 boxes of factory ammo, and 1 hour of range time a month cost, over say 2 years, and then compare that to the gun.

Just because the gun isn't the largest cost in the equation doesn't mean they aren't priced high IMHO. Also, doesn't mean I wouldn't pay it either if I wanted one. Just means value isn't the key here, which is fine as I have lots of things where value wasn't the key consideration. I was reacting the comment about them being the best .45 on the market. One of the best, probably. So good that nothing else compares? Just fan boy nonsense.

That I can agree with!

I've owned the usp 45c and currently own the hk45c. The 45c definitely fit my smaller hands better. The usp was every bit as accurate and reliable, just too big with an uncomfortable grip.

The hk45c is a dream to shoot. The out of the box trigger is not as good as my sigs, but still good!

When it comes down to it the only thing I don't like on my USP 40 is the grip. It just doesn't feel as right as the HK45 I love the weapon.

As far as what I said about the round, I feel the .45 has a more controlled recoil then the ""Snappy .40""
