Change your springs!!

Post by VBshooter »

I am passing this along as a maintenance reminder for all you Glock shooters , especially any who carry for self defense.. After 3000 rounds or so I would advise you to get a Glock spring kit and Armorers tool or go to a Gunsmith and have all the springs in it replaced,The kit is only 20$ I have first hand experience with failures, Springs, pins, triggers etc: Fortunately it was at the range and not in a self defense situation,, A few months ago I swapped all the springs out in a first generation Glock 23 I have,,At that time I changed all of them except the Slide Lock Spring. That is the one that keeps the small keeper up that holds the slide on the frame, It looked fine so I figure it's OK, At the range on 3 different occasions I put about 500 rounds through it with no issue, Last time I went I fired 3 rounds and that Lock spring broke leaving me with a tupperware club,, Made me rethink my error of not replacing that spring when I was doing all the others,,I have found GLocks to be a lot like fast cars ,,If you beef up one thing ,you better beef them all or it will find the weakest link at the worst possible time

Good advice Spence. First time I've ever heard a cease fire called at Gilberts was the other day. Seems part of someone's Glock (I think) went downrange and it wasnt just the bullet. Not sure what the problem was but it didnt look good at all.
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Almost guarenteed the spring I just mentioned is the culprit!!!!!! I got lucky and mine caught the slide under the barrel but if the lock peice had fallen wrong I would have been doing the same thing...One extra thing I do have is an 8 LB NY trigger using a 3.5 connector,,It usually requires a trigger pull in addition to the slide lock to take the slide off, so that was a factor too!!! One other thing possibly was bad parts, I always use factory parts to avoid issues,
