Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

Decided this is the route my wife and I are going for our 1st handgun. (yes, I have always loved the 1911 style). I want to get use to the feel of the .22 before I decide to buy a .45. Pretty sure the wife can handle the .22 no problems so when the .45 comes around we will each have a pistol for the range. Now who do you recommend for this purchase either local to NoVA or online?

I've bought most of my firearms online through Grabagun.com, and in person at Blue Ridge Arsenal. Blue Ridge might be a bit more expensive (usually marked up a bit from web pricing, plus sales tax), but you get range passes equal to the difference in price, and you can handle the hardware before buying (always recommended with a new firearm - never buy it sight unseen).

Most 1911 patterned .22LR pistols I've fired were so-so in terms of reliability compared to the Ruger SR22, Ruger MkII & MkIII, Browning Buckmark, or Berretta Neos (which I own) - be ready to clear a lot of jams once the internals start getting dirty at the range! (Jam clearing is always good to practice for a CCW piece, but frustrating if you just want to punch paper or plink) Happy shooting!

Granted a single point doesn't mean too much, but my sig 1911-22 has been running just great on fed bulk pack with minimal cleaning, in dusty and dirty environments (barns, etc.) and hundreds of rounds through it. I'd buy it again. Ymmv, though.
