Well first I'd like to ask if anyone has any experiance with coach guns? How do they shoot?

Then I saw a sweet looking over under, it was made by stoeger. Anyone have any opinions on stoeger shotguns? Any known problems? I understnad they're made in brazil but it seemed reasonable for what it was and looked alright.

Over under is for skeet.. Talk about the finery of 12 gauge vs 20 vs 410...

Coach is for killing bandits while being pulled by horses on some rickety ass spring loaded bench seat...

My wife wants to get something to be pulled by our horses. Maybe I could convince her that a coach would be an appropriate accoutrement.

I know what a coach gun is. What is their range?

And do yall have any opinions on stoeger as a company? Are their guns junk or worth considering?

I was saying I saw a decently priced over under but it's made by stoeger. If it's not worth my time I'll be going to look for a side by side.

The range depends on how they're coached and what ammo is being used.

I hear mixed things about Stoeger. Some say their great but others say they have some quality control issues.

The guy at Va arms said he's never had complaints about stoeger shotguns and for 359 it's damn nice but I was also looking at a 12 guage double barrel coach gun too. But the clerk there said it'd be good for home defense so mabey I'll believe him on that either go with the over under or look elsewhere.

Problem is with things the way they are I don't have the luxery of time so I have decide rather quicker than I'd like else I lose what seems to be a good deal on a shotgun!

If you just want a new toy and think coach guns are purty, then go ahead and buy it because you want it. What difference does range and pattern make? Nothing wrong with buying a gun just beause you wanted it.

But I learned something about "coach guns", if Wikipedia is to be credited, to-wit:
:Modern coach guns are commonly encountered in Cowboy action shooting competitions, among collections of Western guns, as home-defense weapons, and even as "scrub guns" for hunting grouse, woodcock, rabbit, hare, and/or wild pig in scrub, bush or marshlands, where the 24"+ barrels of a traditional shotgun would prove unwieldy.[1][3] The modern coach gun can be had in a variety of configurations suitable for both Cowboy Action Shooting competition and hunting.[5][6]" - (and here I thought a "coach gun" was just a sawed-off double-barrel with no particular sporting use due to an ungodly broad pattern and a short range.)
So if something like that is your intent, then have at it. But I've tried the 18.125-inch barrel option for rabbit hunting in heavy briars (with a single-shot), and it didn't add much in terms of putting meat on the table. I doubt if the second barrel would help much, either. My experience was that it wasn't easy to fire that short a shotgun in 12 gauge without busting your jaw and it was danged hard to actually hit a running rabbit firing from the hip. And I personally think anybody who'd wade into heavy brush after a wild pig with a double-barrelled shotgun is probably too crazy to be turned loose with a loaded gun anyway.

If you want a skeet/trap/sporting clays gun or a "gentleman's fowling piece" to go with your shooting tweeds and tattersall shirt so you can hob-knob with the high and mighty captains of finance and industry at some Orvis-sanctioned quail plantation, then buy you a good over/under or side-by-side with interchangeable chokes in some civilized gauge like 28 or .410.

And if you want to maximize utility and effectiveness, buy you 12-gauge a pump or autolader with changeable choke tubes. You can always buy an extra barrel and either saw it off to 18.125 inches or have it done; and it will only be a few inches shorter than a double-barrel but will be able to hold many more rounds.

I looked at Stoeger O/U for skeet. It was made in Turkey, looked like it was made in a Pakistani village. I passed on it.

I have 2 Stoeger Coach Guns....12 ga. and 20 ga. Bought both January '12 . Shot a lot of Skeet this year...At least 2,000 rds. with each. Both preformed Great. I sold a Stoeger over and under that I bought in 2010 . I just could not get comfortable with it. The gun was beautiful , perfect in every way , I prefer side by sides ! I am looking at a .410 Stoeger now that my Gun Dealer Buddy has , just trying to get the deal right ! Everybody should have a Stoeger Coach Gun in their collection !

I found a stoeger side by side and I think I'll be going with the 20guage (a personal favorite of mine).

Some Stoegers are made in Turkey. They bought up several manufacturers there, including I believe Huglu and Vursan. I have several Huglu O/U's that I bought over there, with several thousand rounds shooting skeet and trap through them and have not had any problems. The other, Vursan, made copies of Benelli (licensed) models. I also have one of those, the Model 95A, which is a duplicate of Benelli's M3 convertable (pump / auto with a twistlock). Friend had a problem with his bolt, bought a Benelli bolt and dropped right in. Again, I've not had any problems with that gun other than failure to cycle low powered / light load ammo. As for any other of the other lineage guns from Stoeger, I cannot say.

Well I bought ( a couple days ago) a stoeger stf 3000 20 gauge double barrel. Unfortunatly and as much as I've been itching to shoot it, it's been too cold for anyone who would shoot with me to go shooting. Seeing as how they're my ride I'm SOL until the weather breaks.

But when it does it will be epic because not only do I have a new shotty to shoot but so does my bro. He got a new benelli pump action (the supernova I think it was) and it's a sweet gun too! So come fair weather it going to be some real fun happening up at clark brothers!!!

I'd be interested to know how it patterns. I know there will be chokes on those short barrels (which there would not be on a sawed-off one like I've fired before), and I've heard that with the new propellants there is no need for a barrel longer than 24", so I'm interested to see what happens with a shorter choked barrel.

I measured the barrels they're actually 26", unfortunatly it came with 3 different chokes...single chokes. >.< And non of them are a number 5, just 1,3, and 4! So I need to go find someone who sells them and seeing as how it's a 20 guage (so shot placement needs to be exact) and I'm shooting clays I will want the number 5 to get as much spread as possible.

I have a Chinese Coach that's "Full", and "Improved Cyclinder". It's ...interesting.

The Full patterns TIGHT (Left barrel) the IC patterns like I'm throwing gravel. At 20 yards, the IC is great for popping quail in a fast pattern. The Full is good for rabbit.

Again, it's an interesting gun but at 20"? It's good enough to get scraped, and beat a bit for $200.
