Got my newest addition to the collection today! M1 Carbine, little brother to the M1 Garand. Manufactured in 1943 by the Saginaw Gear division of General Motors. Also picked up a bayonet, ammo pouch, 1 15-rd magazine and 5 30-rd magazines.

That is a piece of art. I have such a crush on those and the Garand. One day...

Sweet -- really think the .30 carbine is something to think about with .223 ammo going sky high in price and so much focus on assault rifles (this venerable battle rifle) may ride under the radar. Jealous, good score.

You do realize that by the 2 item standard in the old ban that an M1 Carbine could be considered an assault rifle. Admittedly, they would be grandfathered, unless there was some form of confiscation/ buying program. In that rifle's case it would be the bayonet lug and and the fact that you could easily insert 30 round magazines (I know the one in the picture has a 15 in it). For a lot of folks (those that think it is all about their own weapons, not everybody's weapons) though, the wooden stock would be enough to say no that isn't an assault rifle.

Hate to bust your bubble but .30 Carbine is just as hard to find as .223 these days.

Luckly I have been stocking up on it for a while now.

Although I did not buy the Carbine thru the CMP since they have been out of them for a while, I do buy the ammo for the Carbine and the Garand from them. I get the .30 Carbine ammo for about 0.40/round and M2 Ball (30-06) for the Garand for about .50/round. Their prices havent gone up like other vendors.

One local shop had .30 carbine ammo last week, 50 round boxes for about $25-26 bucks.

Although I didn't picture them, I also got 5 30-round magazines for the carbine. Unfortunately they were all lost when I left them laying on the ground and my horse walked over them.

Very nice rifle indeed, carbines are truly blast, and make a nice addition to collection, the only problem I have is, it's hard to just have one!! thank for sharing

According to New York State's new law, one of my M1 Carbines is now an "assault weapon" and the other is not. One has a bayonet lug. All of my WWII vintage 15-round magazines are restricted to 10 rounds until 4/15/13 after which they are illegal in New York as they can hold more than 10 rounds.

Moving to Virginia can't come soon enough.

We're still fighting. A lawsuit was brought against the state government a couple of weeks ago.

I can only imagine the sigh of relief from any opposing force when they realized the rifle they were facing only had a wooden stock and was therefore not a real assault rifle.

I know I'm preachin' to the choir, but what a ridiculous thing this is.
