Would You Trade.....

This was brought up by LoneStarag on another thread and I thought it would be worth breaking into its own topic.
lonestarag wrote:We need to start an effort to deregulate suppressors. They are growing in popularity and some states allow them for hunting. Question, would you trade NICS checks at gun shows for deregulated suppressors? Go......
I think I would be open to that. You could still sell privately just would need an NCIS check. Lets assume deregulation to mean that you could buy a suppressor just like a gun.

I'm sorry, I prefer not to trade one bad law for another when it comes to my rights.

Beat back the current gun grab, then start making progress on rolling back some of these other stupid regulations.

No trade. Progress is a forward movement, not sideways.

No deal. As I have stated in other threads I am tired of waiting 3+ days for a firearm I am legally allowed to purchase, simply because the system has me confused with someone else.

Well if you are in Virginia and it takes 3 days you need to take steps to rectify it, starting with the State Police, there are processes to take care of that

If you have ever been arrested and charged in Virginia you will most likely not get a 3 minute clearance in Virginia regardless of the outcome of the arrest.

If you were arrested and charges were dropped or you were prosecuted and found not guilty, you may suffer delays in the system, there are steps to resolve that as well.

Step 1 if you are always delayed, go here and select form 167

See whats on your record

There are 5 people in the state with my name and none of that matters, someone with your name doesn't cause a delay in a NICS check, most likely there is something in your record, right or wrong

I have checked my record multiple times. Nothing is on it. Never been arrested. The only answer I have gotten is that it is because of my common name. Although there are conspiracy theorist that believe that by working for the Government and having a clearance will get you flagged too. Having worked for the Fed Gov for several years that very well could be part of it. But to help you understand how common my name is, in my Kindergarten class there were 3 other students with my same first and last name. In fact one of them somehow managed to have my full name as well, spelled exactly the same way. In a class of under 30 students. (I still contend to this day that one of my Kindergarten teachers ticked off the school admin staff and that is why they stuck 4 students with the same name in one of her classes.)

Where talking NICS checks they don't normally have delays like VSP's system does. Generally they clear in about 2 mins or so. I understand nobody wants to impose private sales restrictions but I think they could be implemented smoothly and wouldn't be opposed if we gained suppressor freedom.

Are you kidding me? Someone's showing some true colors here. Trade one right for another instead of demanding both rights or "freedoms". Give me a break, read between those lines.

I understand what Jake is saying though.

CURRENTLY, you have to fill out an NFA form, either form a trust or have a CLEO sign off, Send them a check for $200 with all the paperwork, then wait for the ATFE to send you the stamp before you can put the suppressor in your hand.

Dunnot think I'm comfortable with the NICS compromise, but you're in the right direction!

Rights are not Pokemon cards. Rights are inalienable, meaning they cannot be ceded or traded away. The law against suppressors is unconstitutional. It has not yet been challenged at the SCOTUS, that's all.

What is this fear of firearms, that some kinds are too scary for citizens to own and use? Irrational, and covering up psychologically for an evil agenda by wannabe dictators. Don't let them get you into their mindset.

Oh Hell No! universal NICS checks are just liberals demanding gun registration...which has only one function--seizing guns at some future time. Want a can, buy a can...yep, it takes a long time for the paperwork to arrive (due to work slowdown at BATFE..6-7 months wait is obscene and unsupportable).

So expand the argument from suppressors to other class III items... Would I would trade NICS checks at guns show for the ability to buy new/imported machine guns? You better believe it!!

Gun bills are trade offs folks. Reagan clamped down on ATF abuses 1986, but gave up new machine gun sales to the public. NRA supported the NICS Act changes in 2008 on the condition that federal & state agencies allow people to petition to clear their names from the databases. If the left wants to take more gun rights away, we should not only be pushing back -- we should be demanding back some of what we gave up previously. Problem is, no one in DC is making these arguments...

I think Dem leaders upped the ante this time to "universal" background checks so that they will still have gun show "loophole" as a fall back. Our side has not upped the ante, sadly.

With our elected officials, they seem to confuse compromise with placation or shoe banging. Either they're mouthy children throwing a temper tantrum or they are spineless and lack conviction.

I always get delayed a few hours at least. I always assumed it's the number of vowels in my last name.

Again you would still have your right to private sale you wouldn't lose that. You gotta understand that advancing legislation requires some comprise. Most of the time I to oppose such things but in this case we could take the offensive and create a law that still allows for private sales. If you can set the terms then you end up a lot better off in the end. If the anti gunners push a law thru that bans all private sales then you've gained nothing and lost everything.

Let me add one more. CHP/Voter Registration could be used in place of a background check.

Lawdog explains what's wrong with compromises with the gubmint and the gun grabbers - using cake. Worth the read - all of it.

Ol Tom  was a wise man ......Allowing NICS at gun shows for all sales would just give Uncle Idiot another opportunity to track. regulate and in genreal stick his damn nose in where it does not belong...Private sales are private ,no matter where they occur....

CHP can already be used in place of background checks, provided that a state's license meet certain requirements. Not in VA though. TX permit qualifies and it was nice to be able to walk in an out without waiting (but the trade-off is that permit is expensive to acquire.)

Yes yes yes - let's get BACK some of what our dear leaders ALREADY traded away YEARS AGO. That's my point. Let's get that stuff back.
