Why stop there? Why not have those scary assault rifles shooting down CNN satellites from the top of the Fox News building?
Yeah, that's the ticket

As much as I hate it, it is *possible*, but pretty damn unlikely. Army guys are taught techniques to engage attacking aircraft with both the M-16 and the SAW (M-60 in my day) on an emergency basis.
That being said, the likelyhood of success is very slim, even with full auto and belt fed ammunition, and a large amount of skill in leading a rapidly moving target.
Semi-auto? Your odds of waking up on the moon with no recollection of how you got there are probably better.
(Note: The emergency engagement of aircraft with an M-60 has the assistant gunner face the oncoming aircraft and hold the bipod in both hands, with the muzzle over his head while the gunner is behind him.... then hold the M-60 still enough while the gunner fires and the attacking plane gets closer all the while.
Steel nards required? Tianium!)

Interesting that it is still taught.... During WWII in 44 0r 45 a general order was given for infantryman not to engage enemy aircraft with their rifles..... as it was ineffective and a waste of ammo.. I don't remember the book this was in but it told of one GI disobeying it ... he said he didn't care if they docked his pay it felt good......
