FLEOA Role in Obama Bill?

The WashPost headline item on the discussions around Obama's plans for new gun control quote Jon Adler, from the Federal Law Encorcement Officers Association, as being involved in the drafting (and supportive) of the proposals. I know that in other contexts, FLEOA has done some great things for LEO. Ironically perhaps, they are pressing now for expanded eligibility for LEOs to fly armed. So at some level the organization sees the benefits of armed good guys vs bad guys (to borrow LaPierre's terminology). But on another level, the organization appears to be taking a strong anti-2A approach to citizen. It's a big organization so I would expect not all of their members to support what Adler is saying (ie things like let's not have ad nauseum discussions about the 2A!)...but are there LEO organizations of some significance that support 2A?

I'm sure most people on this board have read the article but if not, it's worth a read esp to note the discussion about the White House angling for support from big box retailers for a provision to require universal background checks.

I would think that while most LEOs themselves like guns, they would prefer to have guns off the streets and out of the hands of the general public because of the line of work they're in. In general they're concerned more about their safety than your rights.

Thus helping to foster the "us vs. them" attitude.

Well when you work in a line of duty that deals with criminals about 75% of the time, you kind of could like a break. I can understand most PO's dislike with firearms. But I also don't think you'll find many with a dislike in having law-abiding citizens with firearms.

Could ya blame them though for worrying about their safety? Sure, they get paid to be put in that situation, but I'd much rather not have to "go there" if I didn't have to. In the end... Most people who have guns on them, they aren't gonna shoot at LEO's. Just the few (i think) 10% of ciminals will do something crazy/out of line thing.
