Florida CCW permit class in NOVA?

Does anyone know and can recommend a course in NOVA (Northern Virginia) for obtaining a Florida CCW permit?

Ideally, the course will:
  • Take place during a weekend (strong preference)
  • Not require bringing a pistol/ammo, but rather provide one
  • Include help to complete all the paperwork
  • Include help with other requisites (fingerprinting, notary public)
But feel free to suggest good courses that don't include all the elements above

Florida accepts Virginia and Utah. Why not get one of those? ProShooter is doing both on the 28th at Bass Pro in Ashland.

Thanks for the suggestion, I prefer the Florida permit due to a few reasons, but want this thread not to be a discussion about getting a Florida CCW vs getting a Virginia CCW. Just about information on courses.

That's too far from my location, but I appreciate your providing that info, nonetheless.

I hope other courses will take place closer to Arlington this month.

Thanks

I hope that all my students from Nova, Virginia Beach, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, et al don't start thinking like that! I'd be out of business!

I'm glad you have so much business from all those places.

I'd prefer to attend a course that is taught at a location closer (<=25 min) to where I live, though. That's why I am asking in this forum.

Thanks

Well, I don't know of anyone in particular in Nova who does the Florida cert. A good number of instructors across the country who claim to do Florida don't do it correctly, so be careful which class you attend.

Most instructors teach classes on weekends, which you are seeking. You will need to do a live fire exercise for Florida. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to use your own gun. Its better for you for CYA purposes. The application is simple and is usually completed solely by the applicant. Fingerprints must be done by a law enforcement agency, so the instructor cant help you with that.

I was under the impression that I had to have "range experience" or experience actually using a gun to get the Florida CCW permit.

Turns out that that is not a requirement:

I already passed a hunting course in a state that has reciprocity with Florida, so I guess I can apply right away.

Still, I'd be interested in getting actual experience using a gun (e.g., live fire class). The course I took was mostly descriptive, and it did not involve "hands on" experience. I guess I have to change my question to:

Does anyone know and can recommend a course in NOVA or Montgomery county to use/handle handguns that provides hands on training (loading. shooting, pistil maintenance, etc.)? My preferences above still apply, including that the course would ideally provide (or rent!) a gun and ammo for training.

This one in Chantilly gets very good reviews plus it lets you shoot several different types/caliber of handguns - it's not a CC class though:

However, FL doesn't accept non-resident versions of VA and UT.

PeacefulGuy, do you already have VA? If so I believe the training you used for that should work for FL...?
