Mind-numbing stupidity.

---

From FOX News Radio

An Illinois police chief has banned his officers from a Belleville Denny’s Restaurant after a manager told five on-duty detectives they had to leave because one of them had a firearm.

“The Belleville Police Department is very disheartened by the lack of respect shown to on-duty sworn police officers, Capt. Don Sax said in a statement to Fox News. “Until further notice all on duty Belleville Police officers are banned from Denny’s Restaurant unless responding to an official call for service.”

The incident occurred on New Year’s Day when five detectives were eating at the restaurant. A manager approached their table and told one of the detectives that she had to take her weapon out to her car or leave the restaurant.

The detectives initially thought it was a joke, Sax said, noting that all of the officers had displayed their badges and several police radios were on the table.

Sorry for the cops. I'll laugh once the Denny's gets held at gun point by armed assailants at 2 in the morning and they wonder where the po-po are.

Great think Mr. Manager! Losing armed security AND patrons in the same blow. Hahaha

Nope, according to the article just someone "misunderstanding" the policy. Officers, both uniformed and non are supposed to be permitted to carry weapons in the restaurant. By the time that came out of the GM's mouth, though, too late, officers were ready to go.
Stupid part is the request for them to leave came from another patron. Someone was "nervous" about having a bunch of police officers sitting near them in a restaurant.
Generally that's company I would welcome.

Denny's.. Ain't that the same outfit that was in trouble for discriminating against black folks? Now they persecute cops? Nice bunch of folks, huh?

I sent an email to their corporate offices to find out what's their policy

this is what I sent:

After reading about the police in Belleville, IL being kicked out because they were carrying firearms, I was curious as to the official corporate/regional policy.

I eat there with my family/friends at least 2-3 times a month, and I am ALWAYS carrying a firearm.

I am not a police officer, but licensed to carry a weapon.

If you have a policy against this, I will inform fellow gun owners, and we're more than able to find alternatives for dining.

In principle, they're not persecuting cops. They're simply not granting them special privileges on their private property that they are unwilling to grant their other customers. Although, they quickly reversed that stance. The real people they are "persecuting" are law-abiding gun owners who can not carry on their private property. Which since it's private property, tough luck.

Illinois Police Lift Ban on Denny’s

Jan 4, 2013
By Todd Starnes

Police officers in Belleville, Ill. may once again eat their Moons Over My-Hammy.

The police chief has lifted an order banning his officers from eating at the local Denny’s after a manager told a detective she could not bring her firearm into the restaurant.

The incident occurred on New Year’s Day when five detectives were eating at the restaurant. A manager approached their table and told one of the detectives that she had to take her weapon out to her car or leave the restaurant.

The detectives initially thought it was a joke, police spokesman Don Sax said, noting that all of the officers had displayed their badges and several police radios were on the table.

“(The manager) stated that he had a complaint from another customer about the weapon and she had to take the weapon outside or leave,” he said.

In response, Belleville’s police chief banned his officers from dining at the restaurant while on duty.

On Thursday a Denny’s official met with the police department and offered an apology for the actions taken by the local restaurant’s management. Denny’s reiterated their corporate policy allows all law enforcement officers to carry their weapons while inside their restaurants.

A spokesman for the police department said they appreciated Denny’s handling of the incident – and the ban has been lifted.

“I have patronized Denny’s in the past and will continue to do so in the future,” Chief William Clay said in a statement. “I harbor no grudges. This was an unfortunate incident by an individual employee; it has been made right.”

Case closed.

I have been asked to leave the Denny's at 3337 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA 23452 before for open carry we didn't even get to sit down we were told to leave as soon as we walked in so I left and called there number and talked with the manager and she told me that firearms anr't allowed in there I told her that me and my wife have eaten there many time when I was carrying and that this is new to which she told me they have never allowed them in there. so we just go to I-hop now.
