I see no problem with it if the individual is legally able to possess a firearm and it is legal to carry said firearm. Some states have a prohibition on carrying at political events, Arizona doesn't. We could carry the same firearms the guy in the report is carrying here in VA. A couple of localities are off limits with an "assault weapon" if you don't have a CHP. The media is just stirring things up IMO. As long as those carrying firearms behave then it's actually good press for gun owners I think.

He was legally excercising his rights and not attempting to draw attention, IMO he is to be commended for both actions.

If you think the guy carrying an assault rifle wasn't looking to get attention, I think you're sorely mistaken. I guarantee you that he does not walk around with that on his back all day, or when the cameras are not around.

That being said, I fully support him exercising his rights under the second amendment.

I agree 100%, xjohnx. Just because we can do something doesn't mean that it's appropriate. Why give the anti-gun crowd a photo op for their propaganda?.

I'll concede the man was making a bold statement and maybe was looking to attract attention, IMO there are times when rights should be excercised and this may be an extreme example but if we don;t show the anti gun crowd that we will use our rights they get emboldened to attempt making more laws.

A few thoughts:

1. I think everyone at the "political event" had an opinion;
2. Most people at the event likely wanted to "get attention" about their view;
3. Arizona is one state where such "open carry" is legal;
4. his carrying should be no different than someone yelling their opinion--both are exercising their rights guaranteed by the bill of rights.

Just because someone disagrees with his position doesn't mean he is "nuts" because he has a gun. A person may be nuts regardless of what side of the street they are located, and possession of a gun has nothing to do with them being "nuts."

Slanderous statements made by someone at an event is illegal. Shooting someone at an event may be illegal--it does depend on the situation. However, carrying a gun is as legal (in that jurisdiction) as speaking your mind on your opinion--so long as your spoken statements are not slanderous...

The politicians seem to be fond of saying speaking up at these events is "unamerican" and is "disruptive." Why is it our politicians seem to want to take away the rights that even our constitution guarantees? I mean if we can't speak out in opposition to a political position at a "town hall" event where the topic IS that political position, where are we supposed to discuss these issues?

I bet most of the politicians don't know what the amendments to the constitution provide for or protect.. Don't agree? Go ask them. I dare you. :roll:

I bet the anti-gun ones know. Why do you think they are hell-bent on taking them away from us. I doubt very seriously they are concerned about the safety of citizens in general. The 2A is one IMO that they are indeed familiar with.

:welcome: to VGOF. Please feel free to post a note in the http://vagunforum.net/new-members/ topic so we can all give you an appropriate welcome.

The anti crowd has 2 control issues, they want to control and additionally want to be controlled! Fear is the platform for all the rhetoric they set forth,THey won;t admit it but that's what they are feeding upon,, Scare the hell out of people who would otherwise be unconcerned and convince them that Control is the only way to save them.. We all know it as BS!!
