Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

I currently own a Beretta 92F, but as you guys know that is a huge gun. In the near future I will have a CHP, and I want to have something in my inventory that I can carry without feeling like I'm bringing a cannon with me.

I went to Blue Ridge Arsenal the other day to get a feel for easily concealable 9mm handguns, and I think I'm in love with the Springfield XD 9mm 3" model. The Glock 26 just didn't feel "right" in my hand when firing them side-by-side, the trigger on the KelTec PF9 and PF11 were awful, and the Sig I was shown just didn't fit my hand (wayyyy too tiny!).

I've done a lot of research and almost everyone has nice things to say about the 3" XD 9mm. Are any of you guys XD owners? Any problems with your XD pistols that I should be aware of? Any ammo that causes them to "burp" in your experience? Planning on carrying with Speer Gold Dot 9mm +P JHP. Thanks in advance for the info!

Have you taken a look at the EMP models from Springfield Armory? Comes in 9mm and .40 and is in a smaller 1911 frame. Conceals well, isn't as heavy as a duty size weapon, and IMHO just plain looks better than the XDs, Glocks, or other offering.

It's only a single stack, but some of the other offers out there are the same. It does make for a narrower profile, and extra mags are easy enough to throw in your back pocket.

I have an XD in .40 and always carry with the extended magazine.
The bulkiness of the design turns some people off, but I am a big guy and it does not bother me.
I have never had a problem with mine and it eats everything I feed it.

@Dragonzfury050: I hadn't considered SA's EMP models, but they look like handsome little guns! Only downsides for my intended use is that it's half the bang-bang pills for twice the price. Maybe around tax-return time I'll consider one, but the XD's $430-500ish price tag is a whole lot more appealing with 13 or 16 round capacity in 9mm!

@Marked8: thanks for the feedback on the XD .40! I'm not a big guy (5'8", 160#) but I didn't find the XD bulky - just a little top-heavy when the mag was running dry, but I always seemed to drop right back on target after recoil, so no complaints!

The XD subcompact and the XDM Compact are both superb. I also have an M&P 9C and a Shield, and they are also wonderful. You can't go wrong!

I understand what you mean. That's something I thought about as well when I was looking. I decided that if I was going for fewer rounds I wanted a bigger caliber, hence my choice of a full size 1911. And I got it for not much more than what your looking at for the XD. With the right belt and holster I find it comfortable to carry all day

I have an XD9SC that I've used for CC for almost a year and haven't had a single problem with ~1K rounds fired using a variety of ammunition. I carry OWB with the 13 round magazine and it is a nice fit for me (6', 175 lbs.).

I own both a 9 and 40 XDm. Very robust and reliable pistols. Cannot go wrong with one. You might look at a M&P shield before you decide.

Thanks everyone for the input! I "bit the bullet" and bought the XD9sc. Also, I picked up 4 extra 13 round mags for range practice. Cheaper Than Dirt had a good deal on them (before CTD went price-hike crazy while getting sold out of every magazine in their inventory in a day).

I looked the the M&P Shield too, but the local gun store I went to wouldn't sell me their display copy, and they have a 3-4 month waiting list, and everyone else is backordered too... so that made the decision easy!

You wont be disappointed with the XD. Go shoot it and let us know how it goes

Will do! It should be arriving at my FFL just after Christmas. I do love it when Santa brings me new toys. After all, I've been good this year! lol
