I am presently living in Quebec, Canada but hoping to move to Virginia as soon as I can, I am a new gun nut and unfortunately Canada is very restrictive with gun rights and getting a CHP is all but impossible, here is what we have to do to apply for a CHP in Canada.

We have to have an imminent threat against our life and have at least two death threats or attempts against our life which have been verified by the police, you have to have proof that you have gone through a Use of Force Training and then the police has to state that they do not believe that they can protect you.

Finally you have to file the application with the Chief Firearms Officer which can take 2 weeks or longer and the CFO makes all the decisions and has the final say in regards to firearm issues in the province where you live and that person can still deny you even if you have shown proof.

A person I know on a Canadian Gun Nut Forum stated that he works animal control in the woods which has a population of Bears and other dangerous animals and he got denied a permit to carry a firearm because he had never been attacked by a dangerous animal and he had to wait until he got attacked by a dangerous animal and then afterwards his application would possibly be accepted.

This country seems to be going straight to hell slowly but surely so I am getting out as soon as I am finished with my education and I have decided to move to Virginia after making extensive research and discussing it with my fiancée, she is studying to get into Entertainment Management and I am studying to get into Respiratory Therapy and Nursing.

I am contemplating moving to either Norfolk or Virginia Beach and decided I should join this gun forum to talk with other people who have the same enjoyment and who also realize that we need to protect ourselves and our loved ones because in this sheeple world nobody else is going to do it and we all know that SCOTUS decided that police is obligated to protect the public but not the individual citizen.

Sorry for the long message, I think the text ran away from me.

Hi John and welcome aboard. :welcome:

Get out of there as soon as you can! Canada sounds like a dangerous place! Thanks for the enlightening story about our neighbors to the North.

Bienvenu! Mon grandpere et grandmere weren't Quebecoise, but they were from the Kingston area, and I grew up within view of the St. Lawrence. I'm comfortable claiming to be the only person here who has repeatedly skated to another country.
Move to Virginia Beach. It's much safer from a crime standpoint than Norfolk (Both on the street and from the city government), and you're closer to the beach. Add to that the fact that my wife is a pulmonary NP, and you've already got a connection for your career. That, and I shoot a good bit.

:welcome: to VGOF sleepless and hope to also welcome you soon to VA. This is a great place to live and I would recommend anyplace except Nothern VA (we call it NOVA). We share the same laws here but its crowded and not a nice place to be sometimes. I knew the gun laws were strict in Canada but I had no idea you had to go through all that to get a permit. Sounds like by the time they decide to issue you one it would be posthumous. Do you guys have a 911 system there? Here in the US we call that dial-a-prayer. Hope to see you here in VA soon.

Please feel free to jump in anywhere!!!
