Sounded like there are some members here that spend time on Lake Anna, so thought I would ask where is everyone's fav fishing spots, what they fish for, bait/lures, etc.

We spend a fair amount of time at Lake Anna, always with the wife and kids. After the kids are done tubing or wakeboarding, we'll anchor somewhere to chill. Unfortunately this is about the only time I get to fish. We have 20' bowrider that isnt set up for fishing (i.e. fish finder, trolling motor, etc), it's great for a family day on the water, but not a good setup for serious fishing.

I've got a great spot, marked an X in the bottom of the boat so I would know where it was.

To be honest I haven't been fishing in a couple of years, I take college courses and babysit a grand-daughter so the lake has been out of the question for a while. Soon to change though.

I usually fish for bass, once in a blue moon catfish. Use tequila sunrise power worms near docks and shorline with cover. I have an 18 foot fishing boat that I've been using as yard art. I really need to find time to see if it can still keep water out.

It never fails. I continually walk right into those and every time you drop the hammer. Guess I need to sharpen up my wit a little...

Had a lot of practice growing up. My dad was one of 10 or 11 kids and everyone of them is/was like that, turn anything you say into something else. You either sink or swim around them.

I take my family to Lake Anna from time to time. I have a 22 foot cuddy cabin that isn't really a fishing boat, but it has spent a fair amount of time fishing catfish on the Rappahannock River.

At Lake Anna, we usually launch at High Point Marina and head past the power plant to the little group of islands back in the bay across from the plant. I pull them all around on the tube until they can't take it anymore and we pack up and go home. We haven't stayed the night on the boat out there for a couple of years, but I always enjoy that too.

I would like to catch some stripers out there, but don't even know where to start.

I know what islands you're talking about, my depth finder lost track of the bottom there and I thought I was about to run aground. Depth finder has since been replaced.

High Point locks there gate don't they? I usually use the campground on Rte 522 (Christopher Run), you can launch 24 hours a day. They did have a drop box to pay the fee then after they opened they'd put a day pass on your vehicle.

Can't help with stripers, I know where to find largemouth though.

Aha. That explains why I feel like this:

We always put in at Anna Point. My wife is comfortable manuevering the truck/trailer there, and they have a nice ramp and nice facilites. They lock their gate 9:30 pm, not sure about Hi Point.

Moccasin, so where do you find largemouth, and what types of lures have you had success with?

Rick, I know the area you're talking about, I've pulled my kids through there a lot too. There is a nice cove in the back that is quiet, good place to fish for perch with kids. There's also an area there that usually has a volley ball net up in shallow water, and lots of boat anchor and hang out there. Kind of like the sand bar at the other end of the lake.

When we want to chill, we'll usually drop anchor on the south side of 208, just before the main bridge. There's a tree on the bank, along there I usually will catch a couple of nice catfish or crappie on worms while the wife is baking on the sun pad.

Berkley Power Worms, Tequila sunrise color. Around private docks and areas of the shorline with cover or anywhere else I sense a largemouth is hanging out. I use my lateral lines to find them.

Lmao... that was really funny..I pictured it...to strips of tape on the floor of the boat..ahahahahahahaa...

I want to take a trip to lake anna..I never been but heard alot about it..I don't own a boat so I don't think it'll be to fun to go bass fishing..but a day out w/ the kids and the ol' lady would be nice..

IIRC you can pan for gold at the state park. There is also a beach area, picnic area, nature trails and fishing from the shore. Nice day trip for a family.

From lake Anna State Park, I hang a right. There's s small island not too far ahead. the northern side of that island is decent, but the grass flats in the alcove to the right can hold bass. Otherwise you'll be kneedeep in blugill and the occasional cat.

I tend to avaoid the lake like the plague during tourist season, too many yahoos and "Sailor Bob's" (the guys with big boats but neither knowegde nor respect of the water).

I don't know what's worse - the big boats with idiots behind the wheel or all the jet-skis screaming around cutting people off and going every which way.

It's Lake Anna State Park. Best to look it up on a map, I know how to get there from where I live.

Jet-skis, the guys with the big boats usually don't come up in the coves and creeks where I fish but the jet-skis do. Worst part is the jerks won't get close enough to hook them.
