I love listening to folks ask the counter guys questions, some of the questions and responses are good - I get to learn something new, some of the responses sets off my BS-o-meter, some make me go - huh? This was one. I was at Dicks picking up some ammo, and the counter guy was telling the guy ahead of me that some firearms wouldnt work right with steel cased ammo. I think the counter guy was thinking the Blazer is steel cased, but it it aluminum, not steel. More BS.

Anyway, anyone hear of problems with steel cases, or is this more BS?

I also heard the counter guy tell a customer that firing some ammo with a particular shaped bullet would void the gun's warranty. My BS-o-meter was starting to go off, so I kinda tuned out exactly what he was saying. I wished I had listened closer. I just politely put my 5 boxes of Blazer under my arm and headed down stairs to pay.

Some semi-autos have trouble feeding steel case ammo and using steel cased ammo in some firearms will void the warranty. It's my understanding thatif a gun isn't designed to use steel cased ammo it could damage it. My AR warranty specifically states that the use of steel cased ammo will void the warranty.

The shape of the bullet voiding a warrant? Never heard that one. The shape may cause feeding problems.

One problem you might encounter with steel encased ammo is from the copper-based lacquer coating. If you build up enough heat in the receiver. the lacquer will delaminate and begin to stick to everything the casing touches. That will eventually lead to jamming, not to mention the need to clean the gun more often.

If you fire slow, it's probably won't be as much of an issue.

The only problem other than feeding I can think of thats a liability issue due to bullet shape is a rifle with a tube magazine. I've heard there have been isolated incidents using spire tips in tube mags unless they are polymer.

The Wolf ammo with the lacquer coating is the only steel case ammo Iv'e heard of to cause problems. Personally Iv'e shot 1000's of rounds though my Mini-14 and Ar and never had a problem.

+1,some AR's run fine some don't with WOLF/SILVER BEAR/BROWN BEAR. My AR loves 62gr Sliver Bear. I'm going to try some Wolf in the new S.A. XDM as 9mm is finally getting affordable again.
