WASHINGTON (AP) - Much of the U.S. East Coast has a good chance of getting blasted by gale-force winds, flooding, heavy rain and maybe even snow early next week by an unusual hybrid of hurricane and winter storm, federal and private forecasters say.

Though still projecting several days ahead of Halloween week, the computer models are spooking meteorologists. Government scientists said Wednesday the storm has a 70 percent chance of smacking the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

When NASA's Chief Meterologist says "Spielburg couldn't script a better movie as bad as this storm will be"....

I'm concerned.

The good news is that out here in the remote western boondocks we're outside the Frankenstorm's footprint - according to the weather maps.

The bad news is that we're supposed to get SNOW Sunday. I'd have been very happy to wait until Christmas on that.

As long as the storm waits until after the Redskins game, I'll be ok.

This is going to stink big time......went to Costco and got comfort foods. Amazing what one can endure if there is a chocolate bar at the end of it.

Fella at the Kiwanis Spaghetti Supper last night was saying he figured that hard left turn Stormageddon made meant the Good Lord meant to punish (or at least express his opinion of) either Obama or Snooky or probably both. I couldn't think of a single argument agin' it.

Unlike Southerners the Yankees don't shut society down for a few snow flakes(i.e. anything under 6ft).

Roanoke is just getting snow, its the winds that wreck stuff here.

I hope DC and New Doizey get blank slated.

Already got prepped for a bad winter so this storm shouldnt pose a problem.
We have plenty of long-term food supplies. Water in durable storage. Medical gear. Survival gear if we have to leave. Light & heat sources. Clothing for a variety of weather and if needed, sleeping outdoors. Camping stuff if needed. And books & games if we lose power.
Also, the defensive tools for basic home protection in the HIGHLY unlikely event there is looting & riots.

My neighbors on either side are also prepared. I dont know if its coincidence or what but most of us are veterans and some of us have seen countries fall apart. We know a little more than the average civilian but are hardly survival experts.

Damn, our plan is "stay at hotel in unaffected area until power comes back on".

Nothing here, but after reading about the folks up the coast? It's a shame not everyone is prepped. And it's a shame they're DENIED the right to protect themselves.

We are good here....my inlaws not so much. They live on Long Island. They are planning to be without power for at least 10 days. Fun fun fun

Yeah I'm reading news about the city-dwellers complaining about no food, no gas, etc. Glad I'm a country boy and have parents who still have country land of where I can hunt and trap from if needed. Pretty much limitless food supply there. So much for convienence of that city living Not so convienent when all you have to chose from if food runs out is rats and strays
