District of Columbia?

A good friend is giving me the use of his condo next week in DC - blocks from all the historical stuff. Wow! Now, I know to not even think about CC here. My question is this: when traveling from Va. to DC, what must I do to secure a weapon legally? When living in AZ, I would pull over just before crossing into California. I would then separate the mag from pistol, lock the pistol in a car safe attached to the floor and the mag in the trunk. Sometimes I would even take the ammo out of the mag and put that in a box or bag in the trunk. Did the same moving here as we went through Illinois.

Of course, my biggest concern is whether I can even enter DC with an unloaded weapon.

No gun. No ammo. Nothing.

Welcome to our Nation's Capital.

Remember the active duty military guy whose guns were seized from the trunk of his car not long ago because he stopped for a doctor's appointment at the DOD hospital in DC? Like him, if you aren't a DC resident with properly registered firearms, then your only option in DC is passing straight through on the highway without stopping. Also, all the museums on the DC Mall are federal buildings and have metal detectors, so leave your pocketknife at home too.
