Girl’s Hand Cut in Forced ‘Islamic Hand Sign’ Drill

An elementary school teacher in Chesapeake, Va. has been charged with simple assault after a parent claimed her daughter’s hand was cut open as a result of the teacher yanking her arm aggressively while trying to teach students an “Islamic hand sign.”

Officer Leo Kosinski, a spokesman for the Chesapeake Police Department, told TheBlaze that Tara Harris was criminally charged with a misdemeanor on Oct. 11 and released on a summons. The case is currently under investigation.

“It’s still a criminal charge. It happened at the school and it involved a student,” Kosinski said. The police department could not release any additional information.

Stephanie Bennett, the mother of the 10-year-old girl who was allegedly assaulted at Butts Road Intermediate School, told TheBlaze in an emotional phone interview that Harris has a disturbing trend of “indoctrinating” students with Islamic teachings. She also said the teacher openly campaigns for President Barack Obama in the classroom.

And this is the reason obama wants more stimulus money to hire more teachers. With all the untold billions being poured into education you would think kids would be getting smarter...not teachers getting stupider (is that a word?).

The more I think about it, the more I think there needs to be more observation and reporting as to the daily goings on in public school. I don't have a dog in the fight atm, no kids. But still...

Video recordings that parents can view on demand maybe?

Not sure what the injury was due to, but according to the cited article: "When Bennett’s daughter was unable to do the Islamic hand sign correctly after two days of instruction, Harris became frustrated and attempted to twist the girl’s fingers to make the Islamic gesture meaning “power and strength.” "

Personally I'd propose introducing the teacher to the American sign of power and strength. It involves showing said teacher an extended middle finger.

Let's see... Students get expelled for reading the Bible at lunch and get theircarms twisted resulting in injury after two days of "instruction". Where, exactly, is this instruction in the approved curiculum? Shouldn't the principal and school board be answering for this, too?

I've been outta High School for years now, but I can tell ya... I don't remember jack about learning ANYTHING Islam in my class. I guess that was stuck somewhere in a page between Jamestown and Paul Revere? Oh wait... Because it has nothing to do with American History!

Here's a lesson kids: Islam teaches rape and destruction of kids. Not so great now eh? Maybe that's why they are in a 3rd world country pounding sand and we are the Great Power.

Also from the article...

“When she didn’t get it right, [Harris] went over and yanked her hand out of her desk and my daughter’s hand got hung up on the metal wire on her file folder and the skin got caught on it,” the mother explained...

Yeah, you have some good teachers, but the bad ones make a DEFINITE impression!

My girlfriend's three kids have a "delightful" group of educators. I wish I could get into it here, but my blood pressure would cause blindness as it would pour from my eyes.

Why pray tell, are we teaching Islamic hand signs? Could you imagine the furor if a catholic teacher was requiring students to make the sign of the cross.

When I was a teacher we tried not to put our hands on the children even in a friendly way....so much can be misunderstood or taken out of context or a bad confluence of events.

This is bullshit. As stated above fire her ass and let her go over to the sand pile and teach if that is what it is called.

A felony charge for that is going a little overboard. You can already bet she will lose her job. Furthermore, the incident is going to be on record and will make it hard for her to find work in the future.

It is certainly true that "hand was cut" does sound right much more serious than "knuckle was skunt".

Still, it was an unauthorized touching, and it did draw blood. Furthermore, the motivation for it arose from was an activity that had nothing to do with the curriculum (or at least it shouldn't have) and (as has already been pointed out) is just as impermissible under the church-state seperation theory embraced by liberals/conservatives as the Lord's prayer in the classroom.

But most of all, think about how you'd feel if that was your daughter. There's no doubt in my mind that I'd be screaming for that teacher's guts in a bucket. In fact, my daughter was once assaulted by another female student on the way hame from school. The school administration knew the other girl was trouble and had told several people exactly what she was going to do and did nothing to prevent it. The other girl was poor and my daughter was seen by a lot of the teachers as having too many clothes, too nice a car, and too much money to be "fair" to the "poor" kids. The school administrators pretty much told us we brought it on our daughter be giving her things other kids envied, and declined to do a damned thing about it. I went to the court house and filed a juvenile complaint which resulted in legal action. The folks at the school hit the roof. I told them to kiss my @ss. Bottom line: No more attacks on my daughter.

So even though the actual injury might have been insignificant, I'd say, "YES, BUST HER ASS."

A simple assualt misdemeanor can carry jail time. When combined with the loss of her career and retirement, I would say that this is as you said, busting her ass.
