I'd have an easier time accepting things like this if after decrying the welfare state the Democrats have created for their own sinister reasons, they would then condemn with equal fervor the even larger corporate welfare state the GOP created and nurtures for its own equally sinister reasons.

Yet they never do.

Democrats “help others” by borrowing from a Chinese government that doesn’t know you or particularly like you and taking money from people like me and wasting it on wind farms and stupid cars that no one wants. And that will go on until it doesn’t. In the meantime Democrat politicians will treat voters like you as idiots and losers.

The conceit that all federal budget performance is credited to the President has been thoroughly debunked. Why persist in it?

And for consistency, I'll point out that Obama is not entirely responsible for his trillion-plus deficits. Remember, the Porkulus and Obamacare were passed by a Democrat-dominated Congress. However, Obama is responsible for driving those bills, and the Democrats did his bidding.

Whether the Congress is aligned with the executive has much to do with who is responsible for the budget. Clinton wanted to be a tax-raiser and budget-buster, but starting in 1995 the GOP House stymied him. Reagan wanted to shrink government and lobbied for a line-item veto, but Tip O'Neill and the Rooseveltian old-guard in Congress stymied him. GW Bush was never a real conservative and his foolish expansion of Medicare and the Education department cement his status as a Big Government, old-line Establishment Republican.

But in 2009 and 2010 we had a Congress that was monolithically in solidarity with the most extreme socialist, and most corrupt fascist, ever to be President. That alignment has brought us to where we are today. Since the GOP took over the House in 2011, the Democrat-controlled Senate has stymied their efforts to reform federal spending programs. So while it may be wrong to say the deficit belongs to Obama, it certainly belongs to Obama and his Democrat supporters in Congress, who have been working as a team.

Anyway, I'd heard of the "blame the Democrats in Congress for Reagans Spending" before, but a quick Google search turned up something interesting:

As the figure shows, Reagan and Bush senior got almost exactly the budgest they request in each of their 12 budget years.

•Reagan:
•The first budget — passed by all Republicans and a few conservative Southern Democrats.
◦This increased the debt by $144 Billion.
•The next 5 budgets — passed by the Republican Senate and signed by Reagan.
•The last 2 budgets — passed by a Democratic Congress
◦Totalled slightly less than Reagan requested.

Essentially the Dems cut from the Gippers requested budgets(albeit very tiny amounts) and saved money.

Can't blame the Dems for Reagan. He was a big spender, why not just let that fact stand? There are some true deficit hawks in the GOP who should be commended for it, but Reagan just wasn't one of them.

I don't buy it, Kreutz. I don't have time to research it fully, but that zfacts website sure looks like heavy partisan spin from the first line of the About page.

There are typically additional appropriations beyond the President's requested budget and that spending goes into the deficit. I suspect that the merely focusing on the budget, and not on total spending, gives a distorted view.

Perhaps, but no less partisan than a knee-jerk "blame the Democratic congress" response no?
