Moving to VA, question about _Possessing a firearm

Hi,

I will be moving to NOVA very soon (close to Landmark Mall).

I am not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. I am here with a non-immigrant visa

I am moving from another state in which I was able to legally purchase a handgun from a store and picked it up from a FFL dealer. I went through, and passed, all the checks.

My question is this: What do I need to do to keep legally possessing my handgun in Virginia?

The only place where I will keep this gun is in the VA house I am moving to. I don't plan to open carry or conceal carry anytime soon. So, preferably, I would like to keep possessing my gun without having to obtain a license, if possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ideally, you would provide links to VA laws that support your advice. It's difficult for us, non-immigrant aliens, to purchase and possess a firearm and if one is not careful, one could break laws. I don't want to break any.

Thanks

P.S. I am not asking what steps I need to follow to purchase a gun. I already know those. Hopefully, I don't need to follow most (or all) of them again just to keep my handgun.

Not a thing. There is no registration or permit process in Virginia.

hey PEACEFUL GUY. if you are a legal resident, then OAKRIDGE STAR is right there is nothing you have to do. as long as you are legal and have not had anything that makes you a restricted person, felony, drugs, or mental health.

you can carry out side of your home also

one thing you might run into is a LEO that doesn't know the laws. you might want to carry a printed code with you

BTW welcome to VA and be sure to join the VCDL

They are dangerous. They are designed to kill.

They are very icky after a day at the range.
