Good day,

I'm new to your board so I hope you don't mind me introducing myself to you in this way.

My partner and I are Emmy award winning producers from Northern California. Two years ago we started working on a film about street gangs invading rural California. Due to my repeated contact with gang members, it was recommend that I obtain a CCW permit - which I did. The process led to me learn about the backward gun laws of California compared to the rest of the Union. Through research I discovered that there has never been a positive documentary about the 2nd Amendment and gun ownership in America.

Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire will be such a film. Supported by the CalGuns Foundation and Second Amendment Foundation, this PTV/PBS documentary will look at how California is the front line in gun control battle. The film will look at the current assault weapon ban proposals in California and Washington, DC, as well as, CCW permitting across the USA.

No offense, but someone from California, coming to a VIRGINIA Gun Forum to try to get a positive spin?

Every time I hear the words "PBS", and "Documentary" I remember how many times I've been insulted as a Southerner, as a gun owner, and as a conservative.


Eeehh, I've bitten that hook too many times from the Left Coast Folks... Think I'll sit this one out.

Wow, with a welcome like that no wonder there aren't more people willing to help preserve the 2A.

Looks good. I have family in CA and they hate hate hate the gun laws there. My DH grew up in NY but has his CHL and is known to even carry openly. I follow the trust but verify on most things.
Like shotgun I would t minimum download it when it was available.

Theaters are hard for us with four little ones. $20 for tickets, $20 for popcorn, $40 for a baby sitter--a two hour movie can cost us $80.

Not trying to offend, but after the way we've been portrayed in movies, tv, newspapers, Main Stream Media, it's just everytime I get my hopes up that THIS time we're gonna be treated fairly, we get hammered.

Treat every opportunity with hope, but skepticism to check the facts.

I also think I'm jaded after working on local movies here in Richmond, and seeing the way we're talked about behind the scenes. If I had one more "PA" say "round up the hicks", I was gonna tell her off, and walk off set.

I'm actually curious about this documentary, did you ever release it? There were similar problems with MS-13 in NY. I understand they're in the boonies of the border between SWVA and NC too. Just wondering what your work uncovered?

MS-13 is sure enough said to be here. Word is they followed one of their LEADERS to the Federal prison at Woodway (Lee Co.), VA, and have purchased a large farm in neighboring Scott County. We haven't had any media attention on it that I know of. The first responder community knows of it and discusses it. There've been no machete murders that I know of. One theory I heard from a local LEO is that they (1) know most folks around here are armed and likely to shoot back, and (2) they might figure these local good ole boys will, in the best traditions of their ancestors, reply to that machete-fighting-and-sideways-G17-firing crap with a long shot from a high-powered rifle that they'll never see coming. I don't know about that, but I'm glad they seem to be keeping a low profile. Then again, maybe they just don't want to draw law enforcement attention to their underground cocain railroad. Whothehell knows?

Hi Dormin & Kreutz -
The gang doc we produced centered around rural areas where Northern and Southern gang members are just getting settled in. Not as hard-core as MS13, but there is enough evidence that its only a matter of time before serious gang-rule takes hold. The production we put out was to alert kids, parents and teachers of what to look for, and how to prevent it.
Our current production which brought us here to your board is early in production. We need feedback, ideas, viewpoints, etc. to help add depth and understanding that we wouldn't get otherwise. We are hoping to be in post-production by the end of this year...
