Ruger SR40c problem or owner fail?

Hello VGOF!
Long time reader here and I recently purchased a new Ruger SR40c.
On my second trip the the range I experienced a problem where the slide did not fully close and seat the next round after firing. The slide was aprox 1/4 inch from being fully seated back in place.
This happened on aprox 5 times of 100 round fired, and I would have to tap on the rear of the slide inorder to seat the next round.
Ammo used: American eagle S&W .40 165 grain. new ammo
I have fired aprox 300 rounds and this occurred on my second trip to the range. I cleaned and lighly lubricated after each trip.
I don't think I am limp wristing, and I am not sure if it is Operator error, cleaning issue, ammo issue, or firearm issue.
Any suggestions appreciated!!!
